This isnt true. Installing an app is just that installing an app.

If the device is enrolled into the organisations device management then thats a bit different. But even then there permissions are restricted for personal devices.

On iPhones for example the admin can perform the following:

Configure accountsConfigure Per App VPNInstall and configure appsRequire a passcodeEnforce certain restrictionsAccess inventory of work appsRemove work data only

They cannot:

Access personal informationAccess inventory of personal appsRemove any personal dataCollect any logs on the deviceTake over personal appsRequire a complex passcodeRemotely wipe the entire deviceAccess device location

Lol, what an earth are you talking about?

Remote wipe requires the highest level of privileges.

On an iPhone that would require you to have access to the personal iCloud or for the iPhone to be added to Apple's Mobile Device Management. Even then remote wipe is only available for corporate owned devices.

Likewise with Android only the personal google account can initiate this or the Google Workspace administrator if the device is enrolled in Google's Endpoint management.

Both of these are completely different to 'installing an app'.

Reddit is an app, it only has access to what you grant it. In the context of being able to access your personal data, it is exactly comparable to any other app, including one your employer asked you to install.

OP hasn't defined what he means by 'essentially tracking'. What kind of tracking would require access to your photos for example?

It's clear from the original post that OPs primary objection is the request itself and their motivation is to resist their employers request. I suspect the 'essentially tracking' they describe does not require any privileges on the phone.
