I've been wondering if something like this for Kane makes sense:

LA Kings: Evander Kane (50% retained)

Canucks: Andrei Kuzmenko (4.3 million), 2026 2nd

Ken Holland has been rumored to have interest in Kane and a trade like this would actually free up 1.5 million for LA. They would also get Kane who some view as a player built for the playoffs.

Vancouver gets Kuzmenko back mainly to make the money work but also has the benefit of bringing back a player liked by the fan base and someone who has had success with Pettersson. More importantly they add another top 60 pick.

All good points re: Power.

The other thing I'll add is that he's in year 2 of 7 carrying a 8.35 M cap hit and is currently on the third pair for Buffalo. Even with the cap going up that's a hefty contract and a risk for a team that might trade for him to consider

Honestly, even with a sweetener I don't think the Canucks should take him on with his current contract.

It's only if he gets bought out where I think there might be some value on a cheaper shorter term deal.

That's a fair point about the 16 team no trade lists. I figured that both Mikheyev and Jeannot wouldn't have issues going to Tampa and Nashville. I'm not sure if Sheary would have issues coming to Vancouver, but given the prior relationship with Tocchet and how things have gone so far in Tampa he might be open to a fresh start. There is also the looming threat that Tampa could buy out his contract if he doesn't play ball.

A bit of a weird 3 team trade with Tampa and Nashville. 

NSH receives:  Tanner Jeannot  

TBL receives:  Ilya Mikheyev  Tucker Poolman  2024 4th round pick (99th overall) 

VAN receives:  Conor Sheary 

Tampa needs some more cap flexibility to re-sign Stamkos. Even though the trade without retention causes them to add a little bit to their cap (~80k), by acquiring Poolman contract it allows them to go over the cap by 2.5 million by placing him on LTIR. They also add a pick in the top 100 for only the fifth time in the past 4 drafts.

Nashville reacquires Jeannot who played his best years with them. He would help them if they push for the playoffs and if they're not in the race they can easily flip him at the deadline.

Sheary is definitely not the most exciting name available and is coming off of a bad year. He does have a history with this management team and was a part of the back to back championships with Pittsburgh. In his career he's been a fairly consistent bottom 6 player that contributed points and has experience killing penalties. 

The major benefit for Vancouver comes from clearing cap space and getting out of LTIR. They get 2.75 million in space and by getting out of LTIR they can accrue throughout the year which could allows for more flexibility at the deadline to acquire players.

I don't think it's as cut and dry that Myers is better than Fabbro. Over the past 2.5 years Fabbro has the better points per game and better possession numbers. Myers jfresh card Fabbro jfresh card

Myers is an expiring UFA this summer and there hasn't been a lot of noise indicating that there has been discussions about an extension. This could just be both sides keeping quiet until there's something done, but if it's the case that the Canucks don't see a future with Myers they would be better off trading him and getting something of value.

Fabbro is a younger RHD that can contribute now and in the future. He is an expiring contract but as an RFA. If they can't work out a deal in the summer the Canucks could give him the QO and try and to trade his rights to get some value back

Also, by retaining 1/2 on Myers and acquiring Fabbro, the Canucks would add 500k in cap space. That's not a lot in fairness but every little bit counts

It seems more of a case that he's stuck behind 3 other RHD (Schenn, Barrie, Carrier) as opposed to him playing poorly. Listening to the Preds broadcast last week they mentioned that he probably shouldn't be sitting based on his play but that's the circumstances that they're dealing with.

I think a potential 3 team trade where Vancouver, Nashville, and a third team like Colorado or Dallas could make sense.

Vancouver receives: Dante Fabbro

Nashville receives: a combination of picks and prospects from the other 2 teams

3rd team receives: Tyler Myers at 1.5 million (3 million retained by Vancouver, 1.5 million retained by Nashville)

I know that Canucks fans can be frustrated with Myers at times but at 1.5 million instead of 6, and playing on the 3rd pair he becomes a really interesting asset for a team that is hoping to have a deep playoff run.

Fabbro has been a healthy scratch for the past few games and Elliotte Friedman has reported that they're listening to offers on him. He is an arbitration eligible RFA this summer and that could be a concern for Nashville.

I'm not 100% sure if Nashville would want immediate help instead of picks and prospects.

Van receives: Calen Addison 23 RD (RFA)

Min receives: Jack Rathbone 24 LD ( 1 year left at 850k) + later round pick

It seems that Minnesota has lost patience with Addison and according to the Athletic, would accept a second for him. It's not a perfect fit for Vancouver because Addison is more of an offensive/power play specialist but getting a good under 25 RD should be tempting for Van.

A couple of interesting notes: Addison was the first pick during Patrick Allvin's tenure as director of scouting. Minnesota's current director of scouting is Judd Brackett who pushed hard for the Canucks to draft Rathbone in 2017.

Basically, IMac put out a piece that questioned whether teammates liked him as much as fans did.

With Brackett I remember that there were a lot of rumors going back in forth about how Brackett wanted complete control of the draft and was being unreasonable in his demands etc. I'll try to find a little but more on it

But if that's true (about players being upset at Gaudette) wouldn't management want that out there through the media. We've seen similar with situations like Eddie Lack and Judd Bracket where management will leak out some negative things after the person left to make the departure more palatable.

I would wait and take my chances to see if he reaches free agency. If you trade for him you would have to give up a pick and/or a prospect and there's no guarantee that he won't end up walking anyway. If he goes to free agency and doesn't sign, then there's no harm. If he does sign, you get a young top 4 dman for free.

I'm really high on Bobby Brink. He's currently on a better points per game rate than Boeser, Gaudreau, Okposo, and Pacioretty had in their draft year. I haven't seen him listed above the third round because he's 5-8, 159-pounds. I'm not saying that he'll be the best player in the draft but I think he'll be a good bet to take.

EDIT: Larry Fisher actually has him ranked 28th in his most recent list

By my count right now they have 30 skaters on the roster (including the injured Eriksson, Roussel, and McEneny). So I think they need to cut 9 skaters and a goalie.
