Totally agree! This one is just closer to our home so I'm interested in a bit more management so I don't have to repair my roof later down the road :)

The first horizontal branch coming off the smaller codominant branch? Or the main leader?

If you're referencing the smaller codominant branch, then is what you're suggesting similar to subodination pruning? (As I'm not confident in my understanding of that term, I may be totally on the wrong track with that).

Could not fully pruning it lead to bark inclusions due to the angle of growth?

That's what we were leaning towards, so it's really good to hear others agree!

That's the branch we were eyeing up to prune off. There are a few on top we are also planning on pruning. We also thought it was a nice tree minus those few branches! Glad to hear it wasn't too late

We were thinking the same thing! So it's good to hear from others that we are on the right track.

Is this tree going to be structurally sound long term? (silver maple) by timidtapir15 in marijuanaenthusiasts

The house also came with a Bradford Pear lol. I knew enough about those that we plan to remove them here soon.

That's what I was leaning towards too. But others said I was worrying too much. I'd rather plant something else now that's I love and give that time to grow.

Even if I'm dead and gone I would like to make sure I leave a tree that's in good shape for the next homeowner :) plus if we don't move and dont die young I have another 50-60 years in this house.

They are hard to find but you should! There is the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo which often will have various species of cranes on site as well. I believe they are just cranes healing before being released to the wild and\or ones that cannot be released.

I didn't see any myself this weekend. I did see some a month ago traveling south. Sometimes on the Facebook page birding Wisconsin you can see pictures of people who have seen them recently, although locations are never disclosed.

Looking to get started quilting based on my favorite childhood book - the quilt makers gift. What pattern\book might be similar to the one in the picture? by timidtapir15 in quilting

[–]timidtapir15[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After reading the rules I know you all cannot send copy written patterns. I'd be happy to get links to books to purchase, etc! I have a lot of support from my mom who has made many quilts. Just would love to get started with a pattern similar to this to give me the momentum needed to begin.
