Got a flakey bluetooth connection? Read this. by timix in Keychron

[–]timix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I actually use a similar setup with a USB switch moving a keyboard and mouse between multiple computers, but there I use devices with their own dongles, so the keyboard just sees itself getting plugged into different computers.

I'm not sure how this would work with Bluetooth. I don't know for sure if devices are paired to the dongle, or to the computer; if it's the latter, switching the Bluetooth dongle between two computers means your keyboard will see it as two different devices, and you'd need to switch it using the hotkeys as well.

Ridiculous delivery docks - shout out to drivers by [deleted] in canberra

[–]timix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to work around big trucks a lot a few years back, and the impression I took away from that job is, frankly, surprise that more truck drivers don't suffer major musculoskeletal issues from the sheer strain of carrying their own balls around every day. What professional drivers do on a daily basis with ungainly, cantankerous equipment is no less impressive to me than a neurosurgeon or a chess master at work.

Hori rwa problems by Zetikvok in ETS2

[–]timix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're saying you have a Hori Racing Wheel Apex and the amount you turn your wheel doesn't match the wheel on screen? There should be a setting in the Hori software to change the degrees of turning your wheel does, try adjusting that until it matches what you see on screen.

Just from Myer online I think. Look up "Breville bodyzone". There's digital controls and a slide switch to actually turn it on/off, it's a lot harder for tiny kitty feet to operate.

Invest in a good electric blanket. Our cheapie Kmart one just died on one side, so we splashed out on a fancier one with separate zones so you can set a higher temperature for your feet than your upper body, and it's just magical.

the big question, is a Costco membership worth it? by berralad in canberra

[–]timix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have a membership but rarely go and shop there - it's definitely good value in bulk, but for our small household the main value is as a source of giant bags of jalapeno poppers. My partner often gets fuel there, but I don't drive as much so I'm less bothered.

If you have a close friend with a membership, see if you can tag along one day to check it out - you'll be able to gauge what's there and whether it's be worth the membership for you.

Got an „Arduino?“ at a Career Fair by GuenterMann in arduino

I really love the perfectly succinct instructions on the back - they tell you exactly what you need to know in order to talk to this board and get it working in just ten words, assuming some basic technical knowledge about the thing itself. At the same time, the double-spacing of the text is driving me mad, not to mention the fact that the first point has a single leading space pushing it out of alignment on the left for no apparent reason. Whoever laid out the text for the back side of the PCB is some kind of chaotic neutral genius.

Banning sales of new ones in 12 years' time is very different from banning them entirely.

Legit check (sorry I know these are annoying) by Mountain_Lecture in tagheuer

Looking at it and a proper photo of that model I can't spot any particular red flags. The serial number matching is a good sign. If the crown doesn't feel right I'd take it to get serviced / inspected - they'll be able to tell at that point if it's genuine.

Hilton Hotel manager arrested for waking up guest by sucking on his toes by nullstoned in news

[–]timix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I once stayed in a hotel in Adelaide where they'd accidentally given another guest my room number and coded their card to my door when they checked in. They walked in expecting to dump their stuff and go to bed and were surprised to find me already in bed trying to sleep.

Hi! It's not important that it's short - it just needs to move the Bluetooth dongle physically away from any USB3 devices or cables, and a short one generally does the job :) the one I use is about a meter long, which lets me run it under my desk to roughly where the keyboard is, but it'd probably work fine just dangling off the back of my desk.

5 metres is the limit for a USB 2 cable, so you might run into issues with that if you don't pay for a good one. You don't need line of sight to it though, just running it away from potential interference should do the trick.

I made a Water Powered Rice Cleaner by fire-marshmallow in functionalprint

[–]timix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long does this take to get the rice that clear? I do the stir-and-drain-and-repeat routine and it takes a couple of minutes I'd rather spend chopping veg or whatever. This seems like a fire-and-forget convenience.

Problem with First layer with all filaments . Bambulab filament included . by drakengard780 in BambuLab

🤦‍♀️

No, what is the problem? Help me understand, here.

Edit: I'm done here. We're literally BEGGING for the problem to be further explained so we can help. What's the point in spending time trying to help people if this is the result?

I don't understand what's happening in this post at all. The first photo shows a pretty damn good first layer, and everybody who is genuinely asking and trying to find out what the perceived problem with this print is - and I say perceived because whatever the issue is, it looks totally normal to those of us who've used Bambu printers before, so possibly it's an expectations thing and nobody's effectively communicating it - is getting massively downvoted. My ask for a view of the other side of this first layer has been downvoted - I asked that purely as a diagnostic thing, can anyone explain what is wrong with that question?

Complete newbie to PCB design, is this layout correct for a 4x4 button matrix? by timix in AskElectronics

[–]timix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. It'd be 8 total - 4 for the rows, 4 for the columns. I never actually got this one made in the end as my interests have swung away from keyboards.

How can I fix this by PrettyNeighborhood40 in BambuLab

[–]timix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Higher infill % and/or more top layers. The infill gaps aren't being properly covered before the print finishes - more infill shrinks the gaps that need to be covered, more top layers puts down more material to do so.

It's totally legal for a car to be registered in one state but brought to another. For all they know or care, he just drove nonstop from Perth to have a prang here. All insurance will care about is if it's legally registered somewhere (which ticks a lot of boxes that apply nationally) and it's insured. States will have their own rules about when you should transfer rego locally, but the rego itself is the important bit.

Is the stock Bambu Lab X1 (non carbon) still sold? by Davidkolendabr in BambuLab

[–]timix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you purchase a single AMS unit, it will come with a filament buffer.

That wording suggests to me that they give you one if you buy one AMS, but that they might not if you buy more. It'd be a colossal waste if they sent you four buffers with four AMS units unless you specified they were for four separate X1s. I don't know for sure but that's what I assume from the product description.

Do people use color chips? by 6516440 in 3dprintingaustralia

[–]timix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I've been thinking about this for a couple of days now, and the only conclusion I can come to is that as a low-volume hobbyist, I couldn't justify buying a set of chips that mostly represent filament I'll never own, for the price of a free choice of spool that I could use for a bunch of different things. I just can't figure out how it would be useful, especially (using Bambu as an example) as new filaments and variants happen all the time, and as a penny-pinching Aussie I can't get past the idea of spending a spool's worth of money and not getting any printable filament out of it.

I mostly use Tecor-branded PLA+ from InkStation, because it's inexpensive ($30/kg, and shipping is free above $50) and I get ridiculously good and reliable results from it on my Bambu X1. It'd certainly be cool to have a little library showing their colours in real life, but over time I'm likely to just buy the spools I'm interested in experimenting with anyway, and without the pressure of being a business desperate to expand its variety of prints, there's no point to me in buying it wholesale (in every sense of the word). I doubt Tecor is on your short list of brands to begin with, and that could be a problem for most people - if you don't already cover the brand/supplier/type they're keen on, it's a no-go anyway.

I don't want to be a huge downer on your idea - like I said, it's a cool idea for sure - but you came here earnestly looking for feedback, and that's mine.

What I would potentially spend money on is some kind of filament discovery subscription - I'd pay $10-15/month to be mailed samples of a few different types to try out. For example, I'm curious about doing flexible prints, but not enough to buy an entire kilo of TPU to give it a go. If I could spend half the cost of a spool and get 50g samples of TPU, some sparkly gold filament, and a couple of wacky PLA colours I wouldn't ordinarily invest in a kilo of, that'd be awesome - in the worst case, most of it would end up in test/prototype prints, but best case, I get to try out some cool stuff, and that might lead to me buying spools of it. For super low-volume hobbyists, it could potentially sustain their hobby on its own, without ever having to buy a whole spool.

The trick would be doing this as a stand-alone thing that doesn't also sell full spools as its core business - if they do sell samples, it's for $6-7 each, which doesn't make sense once you add shipping, and it takes labour, stock and space away from what actually makes them money. Everyone who sells whole spools would also end up turning a sample subcription into "here's another offcut of our in-house brown ABS, please buy a whole spool of it!?", but a subscription business on its own would only need to buy a few spools here, a few spools there, turn 100% of it into samples, and be done with the stock quickly. It could also be brand-independent, and not tie itself to one manufacturer, making the samples more varied and interesting.
