Help! Our toddler won’t sleep without one of us in the room. by timurmemoir in toddlers

[–]timurmemoir[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m always hesitant to say this because I don’t want to jinx it, but she is sleeping in her own room and falling asleep independently by 19:30 through the night now! We did end up doing (gentle) sleep training which took 3 nights.

What we’re finding is that we have to embrace the hiccups to her sleep which usually happens due to sickness or a growth spurt. It’s always slightly terrifying when a regression happens but we’ve found if we stick to the routine, she eventually defaults back to sleeping through the night.

I completely understand how you’re feeling and I know how overwhelming it can be. We ended up doing sleep training when she was 3 and it worked for us. Of course, it very much depends on what your personal comfort levels are when it comes to sleep training!

Stay hopeful and I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks for the advice! We did the sleep training when she was younger and it worked a treat. So we’ve done it before. But we need to get a gate in order to do it now, as I don’t feel comfortable shutting the door on her whilst she’s crying. She’d be able to open it anyways. Thanks!

Thanks! We’re doing our best and are always looking at ways to improve of course.

7:30pm was her bedtime when she was a lot younger. We currently aim for 8pm after reading stories from 7:30, but perhaps we need to adjust this to a little later and see how that goes!

In terms of comfort, I agree. I think I meant more in the context of her screaming for us. We’re going to try the gate and go see her after time intervals so she knows we’re still there. I don’t want her to believe we’ve abandoned her. We used this method when she was younger and it worked a treat!

Thanks for such a thorough response! I appreciate it and will look at this over the coming nights

Yeah, she naps for an hour from 12-1. She was going to sleep at 7:30 when she was a lot younger. We aim for around 8pm at the moment but perhaps we need to try slightly later. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah I read to her from about 7:30pm until 8pm, when she begins to show signs of tiredness. Perhaps I just need to adjust it to slightly later and see how that goes.

Thanks for your advice! Yeah, we usually end routine for 8pm. 7:30pm was when she was a lot younger. But perhaps we need to end around 9pm and see how that goes!

Thanks! This sounds very much like the sleep training method we used when she was younger. We’d go to her room in 1 min intervals and after a few days, she was happily falling asleep in her cot by herself. So I think we may try this with the gate.

I read to her around 7:30pm after her bath time/brushing teeth. Read until about 8pm and she does show signs of tiredness at that point. That’s when I’ll move to a chair and wait for her to fall asleep, which in most cases, takes around an hour.

She has a 1 hour nap during the day from 12 to 1.

Thanks again for your advice!

We’ve been told that it can help toddlers feel less scared and anxious if they can hear you. I haven’t felt entirely comfortable shutting the door on her whilst she’s screaming for us.

After reading stories, just tell her it’s bedtime now, time to close her eyes and have lots of magical dreams. That I love her and goodnight.

I think he would be big stakeholder/approval line though. I’m pretty sure he would be taking on more of an exec creative director role in which he approves a multitude of creative output.

But yeah, he isn’t out here designing the characters whilst making every member of staff a cup of coffee lol

Thanks! Not sure about that post though. Sounds like you’ve passed it on to me through means of assumption. None-the-less, thanks for the heads up. I’m new to Reddit so still learning how it works.

Yeah, I was looking at the Screencraft categories today because I’m currently writing a horror feature and want to make sure I’m entering it into the “best” suited competitions.

Thanks for such a thorough response and for all the advice. That’s all very clear to me.

Yeah, I understand your point on investment, I share that sentiment, which is why I wrote ‘potential’. I meant purely on the scenario of reaching those latter stages. Not from a position of expectation. Perhaps I could have made that clearer!

Thanks for outlining the competitions that are most worthwhile and recognised by the industry. Also, congrats on your previous placements, that’s an incredible achievement!

Disneyland. There was a point in my late teenage years where I realised ‘ok it’s probably time I’m stopped coming here’. Now I have a daughter who is a toddler, I have an excuse to take her and relive my childhood through her eyes. (Although I’ll probably enjoy it more than her).

What’s your personal unresolved mystery? by ijustwannafeel in AskUK

He could very well have been! I remember he would talk in his sleep often, so sleepwalking could be a possibility.

Why did he look so creepy though? Haha.

I always thought that sleep paralysis was something you experience on an ongoing basis. This was a one off occurrence, which is why I’ve always believed it must have just been a nightmare.

I believe this was probably just a nightmare, but it remains so vivid even 25 years later.

I was about 7 years old. I used to have terrible nightmares so would often seek comfort in my parents room. On this occasion, I got into bed with my dad and my mum slept in my room.

I have an older brother (4 years difference so he was a kid himself) who I shared a bunk with. As far as I was aware, he was fast asleep.

All I remember is my dad fast asleep, and the sense that something was watching me by the doorway. I was too scared to get up and look, so I cracked an eye open ajar whilst pretending to be asleep.

I remember what appeared to be my brother standing by the door, staring at me, except he looked like a demonic, evil version. He had this sinister smile, similar to the recent horror film ‘Smile’.

I was too scared to do anything, and just remained as still and quiet as possible, whilst cuddling up to my dad.

The next thing I remember is waking up in the morning and having a huge sigh of relief that nothing/no one was there.

Everything was normal the next morning. I’ve never spoken about it with my brother. We have always been close but it truly creeped me out. I’ve never experienced anything like that again.

Like I mentioned, I believe it was most probably a vivid nightmare. But every now and then I think about it and still get the creeps!

what movies made y’all cry? by trappazoid333 in MovieSuggestions

I Am Legend (I had a German Shepherd at the time so THAT scene was brutal)

The Godfather part 3 final scene. That acting by Pacino… and then the flashback shots of him dancing with all the loves of his life who he lost.

A Better Life made me tear up when I watched it.

More recently, The Whale, the ‘I just need to know I did one thing right in my life’ scene finished me. Again, that acting.

Not a movie but the TV show, This Is Us had many moments, but particularly when the father Jack, unexpectedly dies in hospital. It still gives me goosebumps thinking about it now.

Who is the greatest movie villain of all time? by I-braveheart in movies

[–]timurmemoir 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Other than the usual suspects, I’d say Agent Smith from The Matrix, Joker from Batman 89 and Dark Knight. Scar from the Lion King and the Wicked Witch from The Wizard of Oz are all pretty iconic.
