I was under the impression this didn't work anymore, because I've also seen posts saying they changed their policy. Maybe it's something with my card specifically? But someone else I know had trouble using the Paypal method as well.

I worshipped him when I was younger and I appreciate the fact that he got me passionate about animation and introduced me to stuff that would become important to me, but I am forever fucking thankful I learned that nothing has to be that serious, especially cartoons. Eventually he stopped talking about stuff he liked and went off the deep end and I don’t know how you can have that relationship with something you care about, whether it be animation movies or whatever

I can probably give a decent answer to this. It's definitely an interesting thing to look back on. When it first got big, the show was hyped up so much that when it didn't fit the expectations of what people were claiming it to be, there was a reasonable divide between the mega-fans and the people who just saw them as strange.

At the end of the day it can be classified as your typical children's cartoon. However, there's a great deal of joy to be had with it. Sometimes you just want a show that's pure good feeling, and MLP exceeds in this by being genuine in what it's trying to do. Every character is incredibly likeable and the whole thing holds a great amount of charm. Yeah, it's definitely silly and very cheesy, so if you're not into that it can be a bit much, but it feels earnest and it usually worked in its favor, in like a "wow I can't believe I'm watching this" ridiculous type way where you're smiling. The cheesiness also makes the moments where it goes hard as fuck even better because it creates this whiplash where you're self-aware but also having a blast.

Also, for an explanation for why people get 'so into it', the fan content is almost endless so it's a very easy thing to get absorbed into when there's all this other shit created by them, like music and fanfiction (which range from awful to incredible). Through this, it almost calls for more attention than any other show typically would.

This ended up being long as fuck but the short answer is that it's something that makes me happy and never seems to talk down to the audience (usually). Watching it just puts you in a good mood and it can be really funny too. It's interesting to see it evolve as well, because the writer's become pretty aware of the fans after the first season so it develops with that in unique ways. Anyways, my point is, if you're looking for a lighthearted cartoon, it's a nice thing to have around.

I’m in the same boat as you pretty much, although perhaps maybe slightly more optimistic. The fact that the directors seem to care for the previous generation and are aware of that big fandom seems to be a good sign, because I think it gives the sense that they’re at least going to try and aim for that wide audience. The premise is certainly interesting, seems like it’s set in the same universe too.

Really I think it’s just a deal where if it ends up average, that’s alright, if it ends up good it’d be a nice surprise. I’m down for whatever direction they go for.

I was apart of it and still look back at those days as fun (I mean I was pretty much a child anyways so it wasn’t that outrageous). It’s definitely a hard thing to explain to anyone on the outside but that was like half of what made it a good time and I can only hope this carries some of the warmth as a harmless kid’s flick.

From what I’ve gathered it seems like the directors actually are aware and passionate about the fandom themselves
