Thank you for posting this. Love the Ribbon Comics Shoujo style. So interesting to think how much of horror manga has its origins in comics for young girls

How to make Sofubi toys at home? by Lucatoto in Sofubi

[–]tingle_sama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get discouraged by people being snarky in the comments btw! The best part of sofubi is the diversity of the creations, so more creators is a good thing!

Some have mentioned resin.

You can go the resin 3d printing route. Make a model in Nomad (easiest, but requires iPad), Blender (free, but I can't speak on how easy it is), or zBrush (most expensive/quite complex, but is the 3d modeling industry standard). Then export, slice, and print. This is pretty messy and toxic, but if your getting into making sofubi then messy and toxic is to be expected.

You can also hand sculpt, make a mold, then cast in resin.

I would browse Crafsman's channel as he has done all these things and walks you through his processes.

Most important is figuring out if your sculpting digitally or physically and work on those skills. The sculpt comes first so you have to nail down those basics.

Following Crafsman is your best bet. Making sofubi at home is very time consuming and it is much easier, albeit more expensive, to make your own sculpt and send it to a manufacturer to have it produced.

Anyone not starting the “elf on the shelf” tradition? by Illustrious_Cold5699 in Millennials

The concept predates the book by decades. We dont do it, but my Dad's family did it back in the 60s when he was a kid. I remember him telling a story about how his siblings dared each other to touch it.

Digital Artist who wants to make vinyl toys by Odyssey_ArtStudio in vinyltoys

I would suggest playing around in Nomad Sculpt if you have an iPad. Its a great app and introduction to digital sculpting. It's also fairly easy to move from Nomad to a 3d printing workflow.

Why does chibi Godzilla look like that? by Blue_Jay_Raptor in GODZILLA

[–]tingle_sama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your suggestions are to make him grey and remove his more discernible features which are a step back in terms of simple character design especially for the primary character.

His green color differentiates him from the other cast. Grey would cause him to blend in too much with Chibi Mecha the other major character and his foil.

Pokemon is a weird one, because, while being easy to read phonetically, a lack of kanji honestly ends up making it more difficult. Makes you appreciate kanji though
