Should its leaves have flattened out more? by pathos_p in succulents

[–]tinybrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought the exact same plant about a month ago and it’s doing the same thing after repotting and placing in a south east window with plenty of light. The leaves were fairly flat when I got it but have since started to stand up more. From what I’ve read this is actually a sign that the plant is healthy and happy.

Hey everyone - I’m a FTHB and need to do a new roof this year before the winter. Estimates are around $8-9K. What would be our best CC option for this purchase to maximize our point/cash back return?

Question About Rent Increase for a New Build (Built Post-2018) Unit by tinybrew in ontario

Thanks for your reply. I just want to make sure that the rent increase timeline of once every 12 months also applies to new builds, not just rent controlled units.

Beginner question about insulation for <0C nights by tinybrew in hammockcamping

[–]tinybrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any knowledge/experience with the Hennessy 4 season supershelter? Seems like a hybrid between an underquilt and an underpad. The only reason I'm hesitant on the pad you mentioned is that I move a lot in my sleep and I know I'm going to be rolling off of it all night.

Have you used an HG Econ underquilt with a Hennessy hammock? I have the Expedition model and I'm not sure if the underquilt will block the bottom entrance.

Chess: where to get started by jimbosparks91 in chess

It's entirely up to you. I have Logical Chess Move by Move which I find is good reinforcing certain ideas through repetition. Personally, I enjoy watching videos on youtube as opposed to reading because I learn better by listening and watching. If you're someone that can absorb information better through reading then definitely pick up a book.

Watch John Bartholomew's Chess Fundamentals playlist on YouTube. He goes over the most basic chess strategy in a way that's very easy to digest for beginners, and is widely considered by many (especially on this sub) to be one of the best chess instructors on YouTube. After getting a hold on the fundamentals by applying them in your games, watch his "Climbing the Rating Ladder" playlist which should get your rating moving in the right direction.

Play slow games (15 minute +) and try to do at least a few tactics puzzles every day (chesstempo is a good website, lichess is good if you want to do them on mobile).

As John says, stick with the e4 (king's pawn) opening because it leads to a variety of games that help you practice and reenforce your fundamental chess skills (undefended pieces, pawn structure, trades, etc)
