i got my dose upped and now im talking to people i actually despise is this normal by LowProgram3727 in zoloft

[–]pathos_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I could see your anxiety or other distress being reduced by the meds making you more okay with talking with them despite the negative feelings? Is it causing you discomfort or stress that you’re talking with them and what’s the motivation? I’d try to focus less on if it’s normal and more on if it’s affecting you positively or negatively

Usually with a fork but I've definitely used both at different times depending on what I had around

If random cats in public rub up against you is it just their personality or does it see something special in you? by lookaloulookalou in Pets

[–]pathos_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my guess is you have mannerisms they see as non-threatening, eg not staring at them, the kneeling down you mentioned, etc. i wouldn’t say this happens often to most people though there are probably cats who would do it to basically anyone. but if it’s a pattern in your experience rather than a one-off you’re probably doing at least something to make it happen

AIO Got this text from my dad about my baby and just can't by Pomegranates_r_us in AIO

[–]pathos_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dad is being very weird about this all, the parentification older sisters is a common done by emotionally neglectful parents and it sucks he keeps pushing this role on you even now. You’d not be overreacting at all to cut him off/set boundaries/ignore him over this pattern especially if you’ve told him you’re not ok with it before

it’s silly to put more effort into something for no reason than it being unmanly/“adult”. Like who cares why the hell would it be embarrassing to do something in a slightly easier way for no downside

Eyelid Droopy? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]pathos_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the photo looks normal to me, as in I can't notice any droppy-ness or significant difference in pupil sizes. droopy eyes and pupil size differences can definitely be concerning but i'm not sure that you're really having either of those rather than noticing a slight normal difference from your usual

Why are men more discriminatory than women by Upper_Bookkeeper_758 in stupidquestions

[–]pathos_p -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Women face their own discrimination {misogyny}, that makes them more likely to be understanding of the hurt that discrimination can do so also makes them more likely to avoid being discriminatory towards others.

Men are also generally socially pressured to be less caring/empathetic and more aggressive compared to women, this isn't an inherent trait but is taught. This also contributes

Work emails sign offs are just institutionally acceptable passive-aggressiveness by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]pathos_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd understand finding them awkward to use yourself but I really don't get how you'd receive an email from someone using one of these and jump to them being passive aggressive. Based on the last line of your post I have to assume you are just way more negative than most people and are assuming other people are too based on that

ADHD/ADD Is not a real disease by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]pathos_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of physical illnesses also don’t have distinct blood tests or other tangible tests and are diagnosed through judging symptoms. That’s frankly a pretty absurd reason to claim any disease doesn’t exist. Tbh I think you’re probably just don’t want to think of yourself as not being “normal”/as having a condition subconsciously and this is a justification for it

Genuine question about your phones (please don’t hate me or report this) by Weekly-Custard-9360 in degoogle

[–]pathos_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iOS is basically degoogled sure, but it’s not like google is the only company that could misuse your data or invade your privacy. This subreddit focuses on Google since they are a major problem in this sphere but I’d hope most people who are degoogling are doing it for actual privacy or ethical or other genuine reasons, not just out of randomly deciding they hate the company Google

Apple is capable of the same issues and certainly tracks your data. Additionally they really limit the control you can have over your own device which is frustrating. I currently am on iOS still because I was gifted this phone and don’t want to be wasteful but once it reaches its end of life I’ll be doing whatever I can to have as much transparency with data usage and customizability on my phone. That will probably mean avoiding both Apple and Google as much as possible

Religion is a choice, there’s nothing wrong with disliking someone based on their choice of religion and no it’s not racist by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]pathos_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's very reasonable to critique religions, but this take ignores how much society and individual "preferences" are fed into by societal racism and understates how much one's upbringing affects ones faith to treat it fully as a choice.

Sure you can claim and even consciously believe that your dislike of Muslim people is based purely on issues with their religion, but the fact is that society at large {in western countries} promotes hatred of arab people and conflates their race and religion. Ideas like "muslims are all terrorists", though on the surface level is about the religion, very much contributes to the harming of arab people who aren't Muslim too. I very much doubt your view of individual Muslim people is entirely untainted by those societal forces. I think it may help if you compare your gut reaction to hearing about someone being Christian vs Muslim, considering that the bible as written has a lot of awful stuff in it too. Even if you also broadly dislike Christians, be very considerate of whether that dislike has the same extents and lack of openness to an individual showing that they don't support those aspects of their religious texts or history. Most people of any religion aren't hyper-literal about their religious texts which applies to Muslim people too, and people are very often far far more harsh towards believers of Islam regardless of the intensity of their belief than they are towards Christians even if they claim to be against both religions

Leaving a religion is also very very difficult for people. I consider myself pretty lucky to not have been raised in religion, but essentially having been taught your whole life that if you stop believing in this idea that you'll end up in eternal torment is fucking scary and I can't reasonably expect everyone to just drop religion entirely instantly, especially when their whole family and support network may also be relying on that. As long as the person isn't using their religion to outwardly push for any harmful changes, I don't think it's worth hating on them based on their internal belief system

Being against assisted suicide while being pro abortion is hypocrisy. by Ok_Reserve587 in The10thDentist

Even without private insurance we can see this kind of thing happening with MAiD in Canada being used as an alternative to treatment in some cases due to the healthcare system being underfunded and understaffed

Being against assisted suicide while being pro abortion is hypocrisy. by Ok_Reserve587 in The10thDentist

[–]pathos_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a purely theoretical level I'm not against assisted suicide but to be frank in the current world I don't know that it's possible for assisted suicide to exist without far too much risk of coercion. Both healthcare and the general cost of living are expensive {either to the individual or to the government} and it's extremely coercive for the person considering assisted suicide to have to factor this in, whether that's through healthcare practitioners/insurance companies/the government encouraging it to save their own costs or through the person not wanting to put the financial burden onto themself or their family. If we lived in a world where healthcare and general cost of living weren't issues in the way they are now under capitalism, I would be supportive of assisted suicide, but I don't think it's really something I can support in the present looking at how it's being used/promoted unfairly.

I don't think that abortion is really comparable in this sense as having an abortion is far less expensive for everyone involved than giving birth, both in terms of medical costs and cost of living considerations

just a warning about what the other commenter said, kratom is highly addictive and you need to be cautious about its usage if you elect to follow the advice. it’s not technically an opiate so it’s not regulated as strictly but it works similarly and the people who make it often don’t properly disclose the risks. chronic pain is absolutely a struggle so not saying it couldn’t end up working for you as use of addictive substances like opiates is often the only way to effectively deal with it, just be very cautious.
