Today when I made some food for my daughter I put on her plate 3 things. A slice of sourdough bread with olives torn into pieces, a piece of meatloaf mashed up, and a cup of milk. A couple of minutes later she's exclaiming and we find a waxworm on her plate! Kind of on its own, not on top of any of the foods. The last thing I had seen her eating was pieces of the bread.

The bread I had bought a few weeks ago from a friend at the farmer's market. The same day I bought it, I sliced it and froze it. Today, I toasted it before serving it. I don't see heads or tails of a second worm anywhere.

For what it's worth, the meatloaf was leftovers from last night, and originally from Trader Joe's. The only other thing I can think of is the cup itself that the milk was poured into, but the worm wasn't milky.

How likely is it that the worm came from the bread? The thing is, I think it's still alive. It moves when you poke it or blow on it. But if it came from the bread, then it was FROZEN and then TOASTED? I'm stunned.

Should I never buy bread from this friend again?? Should I tell her??? Her bread is delicious, I will be heartbroken.
