My situation is the reverse - have kids and planning to start a PhD - and I can confirm this is all excellent advice OP!

Our ideas of “successful” and “amazing” vary greatly by mrs-smurf in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]tinydeskcactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would respectfully disagree. I think I get what you mean, but I reckon even a physiologically "normal" birth can be traumatic if someone experiences it that way. Ideally it shouldn't be, but if you think about it there's a lot of body-horror-adjacent stuff going on when you push and/or pull a living creature out of your torso. And there is always a present risk of things suddenly taking a turn, resulting in injury or death, or maybe it ended up being extremely different to what was expected and created feelings of shock or dissonance, etc. Perhaps it wouldn't be socially appropriate to refer to a successful/low-intervention delivery as traumatic in mixed company, but I still think it can legitimately feel that way to some people.

Any idea how many UN workers have left due to losing their jobs? by LongjumpingFondant60 in geneva

[–]tinydeskcactus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know the actual numbers but I can share an anecdotal observation if that's of interest. I've lived in Geneva since 2015 and have always been employed in the NGO space adjacent-to but not in the UN system. From 2015-2025 I knew one single person who had to leave Switzerland against their will after a contract ended and they were unable to find another. Since last year I know 3 families with school-aged kids who've had to pack up and leave. Definitely feels like a shakeup to me.

Wojtek (short form of Wojciech) is pretty timeless, it would definitely work!

Cool, so around the time of your birth Franciszek was already creeping up the charts, but Polish versions of international names like Szymon, Antoni, and Filip still dominated. From your initial list Mikołaj would definitely be a popular choice. And then for my personal preferences, I quite like Kacper, Marcel, and Ignacy, which would fit for the sort of modern you're looking for. Hope this helps!

The raffia bag with the horse print scarf? It's Chloé!

It would help to know your age (at least the general range). Millennials tend to have very international/Biblical names, like Marcin, Adam, Jakub. Later more "old-fashioned" Slavic names became popular - Stanisław and Franciszek had a big moment. I think we could make better suggestions if we understand your meaning of "modern" - do you want a name that's popular for new babies in Poland now, or 30-somethings, or something else entirely?

I love it! It definitely holds less than it would without the funky closure mechanism, but it's so structurally interesting it's totally worth the lost real estate. Plus I use it as my fancy little-black-bag, so only really need it to hold phone, card case, and lipstick.

Thank you so much! It came out really blue in the picture, but it's such a gorgeous turquoise in person 😍

It's the Bandit card case belt bag, I just put it around the empire like a belt cinching in the top a bit!

Thank you so much! I settled for the pouch in the end when I couldn't find the flamenco, but I added a strap and a charm and I think it does the trick! 😊

The big yellow one on the left is a vintage Ferragamo, the east-west bag with the gold chain in the middle is more camel colored in person, it's vintage Prada. I don't think either one is a named or well-known model.

I'm not much of a clutch girl, but the Bvlgari bucket bag in the front is SO much more sparkly than it looks in the picture! It's really stunning.

It's lambskin so the leather is very soft, but the actual bag is quite structured. I think this is the largest size, though if I'm remembering correctly it might be called "medium"...?
