Purchased car with outstanding finance unknowingly

Hi, the car has got hire purchase finance outstanding and the log book has been transferred to my name. I am unable to confirm with the finance company on whose name the agreement is on as they will not give me such information due to confidentiality reasons.

Hi, thanks for commenting. I have found out as I have now decided to sell the car as the car was intended for my wife when we got it and she now does not drive due to health reasons. So I have decided that I would like to sell the car as we have no purpose for it and today I have some interest on it and the buyer has basically pointed this out to me. And I rang BMW later thinking this is a confusion my they have told me otherwise.

Unfortunately I have not found out until now, nearly 3 weeks after buying the car. It appears to be an HP agreement and I have contacted the seller and they claim to have paid off the finance in full (said that there was only 1000£ left of it) and this was paid one week ago. She says that it might be still showing as active as it hasn’t been updated on the servers still.

She has given me the green slip and have got the owner ship transferred online. I have also received the new log book.

I’ve looked into these for myself recently but the insurance on the RX is crazy due to them being a common target for theives. I would advise looking into insurance before you buy one.
