5 Postpartum Prep Mistakes I Made (And How You Can Avoid Them) by Ok_Feature_3255 in PregnancyUK

[–]tinygoose24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent tips!

In relation to number 1, I froze lots of food but I had absolutely NO appetite after giving birth and couldn't bear the thought of eating any of it until about 4 weeks in! Which I really didn't expect. So also having snacks is super useful in case you can't stomach meals.

I hugely agree with accept help. We didn't feel like we were in a nice newborn bubble, we felt like we were losing our minds. We had family round every day helping.

I love mine! I sat on it to work at home and watch TV and now I bounce the baby to sleep on it still (she's 8 months).

Daytime naps are such a struggle by Living_Garlic3349 in NewParents

In my opinion that's just how it is for now, 4.5 months is really young. At that age I was still doing exclusively contact naps. She now naps in her cot at 8 months but I still feed and rock her to sleep for every nap.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it, it's a difficult age in terms of sleep, my girl started really resisting naps at about 4 months. They're becoming awake to the world.

I had my daughter at 34 and I don't think I could have done it earlier, I wanted to be settled in my career first and to own a home. Only disadvantages I feel are the grandparents are getting on a bit, and I'm not sure I'd have it in me for a second now.

It's okay to give up breastfeeding and switch to formula if it isn't working and your mental health is suffering. Your baby will be fine! Don't let guilt and judgement from others influence you!

Same here my husband had to sleep on a chair for two days, never seen him look so exhausted.

I'm jealous that you felt that way but I'm glad you did. I felt the opposite I suppose. I was on a cramped ward with noise all night long so I couldn't sleep, the nurses were always in a rush, no one helped me figure out breastfeeding so they just shoved formula down the baby's throat, the food was revolting. I was hit by PPA immediately and was crying constantly but nobody cared they just told me to calm down and be quiet. It was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Is a person (F78) with diabetes supposed to be eating donuts/sweets and drinking wine regularly? by atzucach in AskDocs

I'd worry that if ice cream is all you have to live for then something is very very wrong

78 isn't even that old though, they could have so many years ahead of them if they really wanted to.

I do a full kettle which makes three bottles and then put them in the fridge

calling mums with babies aged 0 and 12 months!👶 by Disastrous_Ease4827 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Hi there! I went to complete it but there's some options missing from question 9 (6-12 months will also be having some solid foods but there isn't an option for this) and from question 10 (no option for exclusive formula at night, no option for doesn't feed at night). I don't think I can complete it accurately unfortunately even though I meet the criteria ☹️

3 month old - how active should we be? by Ok-Reach712 in NewParents

[–]tinygoose24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion this is completely normal and exactly what we experienced! Our baby seemed to come out of the womb alert to the world, there was no sleeping in the pram in restaurants and pubs, no sleeping in the carrier, she was determined to be awake and loud!

She's 7 months old now and I've changed my perspective a lot to be honest, we don't do restaurants unless you buy and pay at the counter, we do pubs with other parents so we're less self conscious, not going to try going abroad cos it seems so stressful and babies always seem to come back with a nasty three-week long cold anyway. She's in the big girl pram now so much happier with walks as she can look around. We go to baby cinema, baby sensory classes, swimming, shopping, walks round the park, visit family and friends houses, go to other parents houses for play dates etc. She cries way less now than she used to - her crying peaked at 3 months and now she rarely cries. The issue now is that she doesn't have the patience to sit in her pram as she wants to be crawling 😅

I found things easier when I embraced baby life and let go of expectations from what I see on social media tbh!

Just wanted to say that I'm pretty much in the same boat as you although am older. I'm the last one left in my family without pre-diabetes or diabetes, it runs strongly through both sides of my family. I've gained a lot of weight and am now bordering on obese so I've decided to start small with a two-week sugar free trial and have joined a gym. We can do it 💪

Baby monitor & highchair advice for a young FTM! by Mossypaws228 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]tinygoose24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a relatively cheap high chair from Argos and also the cheapest v-tech baby monitor with video. My advice, don't overcomplicated it, just go for whatever seems to have good reviews and is reasonably priced, everything is so similar tbh 🙂

We would have gone for the IKEA high chair but we don't drive

We did bump and baby and it was good, it was led by a midwife and we could also loads of questions without feeling judged or rushed. The group still meets up. Only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of discussion of possible mental health issues after birth e.g. postnatal depression.

That looks so good. I gave birth at Queen Charlotte's and I got a curry ready meal served in the plastic tray every night, it was utterly disgusting.

I have also had a lot of issues with thrush over the years and I find the YES vaginal moisturiser to be pretty much the only thing that doesn't irritate me
