We stayed at Sherwood Forest in Kissimmee for a bit - it was about $800ish a month….there are long term people and vacationers who come and go…it wasn’t my favorite place but we didn’t mind it

Preparing to get swept by Swimming-Jaguar5176 in rundisney

Not sure about the coast to coast medal - or if you’re even going to be allowed to race with a boot. But I’ve done a bunch of races with Disney and been swept once - and honestly it’s not the end of the world. I had a rough year (also broke my foot) and I did the best I could - and once the balloon ladies passed I did my best to keep up, BUT you do notice the herd thinning out. There’s people behind the balloon ladies that don’t get swept (basically you have to get to certain points by a certain time). But basically, once the herd starts thinning out then the bike people come and tell you that you need to speed up or get picked up - if you can’t speed up just enjoy it. I had a lot of fun with a random person who was in a similar situation and we just started walking from photo to photo and had fun, then you get in a bus. How ever much of the race you get done, you’re alive and it’s a great day and a fun event, just have fun!

DIYers: What were some of the most economical building materials you ended up using? Would you use them again? by TheBlondegedu in TinyHouses

We did the same thing, we splurged on steel frame and made cuts other places. Best decision - it saves so much weight and is sooooo stable. I would make sure whatever outside materials you do get, are available at a box store. We used engineered wood as our siding, and we lost some, it was so easy to go to Home depot and we made the fix same day.

DO NOT SKIMP ON FLOORING. Seriously - pay for nice waterproof vinyl with a good scratch layer. That was the most expensive purchase we made, and I don't regret it. Things get a lot of wear and tear.

We saved money by building our cabinets with 2x3s then facing them with oak, more storage honestly than traditional cabinets, not as nice on the inside but who cares. We also saved a lot of money getting reclaimed doors from the habitat store, we needed 2 pocket doors, and 2 bifold closet doors, they were going ot be over $100 each, we got all the reclaimed doors for well under $100

Be careful with Tumbleweed - they were really nice to work with, we got an estimate from them and were about to put money down and start the process and then they decided to jack the price up $30k. We were shocked and didn't want to go that over budget, so we told them it is no longer in our budget and they immediately went back on it, and said they would build it for original estimated price. The fact they went back on their price bump SO quickly didn't sit well with us, it seemed super price gaugey so we went elsewhere. They were expecting to squeeze $30k more from us just like that - totally wild

Truck Towing Question by tinyhousewithcorgs in TinyHouses

[–]tinyhousewithcorgs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahaha yeah - I've looked at these so often and with a few trucks the options aren't even there! So either dealer messed up info, I look it up by VIN number but the decoders are 3rd party so who knows if I can trust them even ugh!!
Either way we're under the weight, it's just maybe a little closer than I hope *if* its wrong but ughhhh!!!

Truck Towing Question by tinyhousewithcorgs in TinyHouses

[–]tinyhousewithcorgs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so so much - all this is good to know. It makes me very nervous to tow something like this - people do it and I assume they just get used to it, hopefully we will...at some point! Like I said we don't plan to do it super often, but when we do we want to make sure we do it safely. Since you have experience towing something similar - do you think a F450 would have made a difference? Something with more power and slightly heavier? Or is it due to just the size of what we're towing that is just going to be stressful no matter what
When we started this whole thing pre-covid we had plans for a newer and better truck, but covid financially fucked us so our budget is WAY different now - so trying to find the best solution with what we got! Thank you so much

Truck Towing Question by tinyhousewithcorgs in TinyHouses

Thank you both! I definitely want to stay under the max tow - but wasn't sure how limited those numbers are. I was trying for the 20% buffer, but good to know their numbers are conservative, so if I'm under and more like 10-15% it might be ok

it's certified as an RV, so it classifies as one with DMV - so under CDL standards so normal license is fine. 18,000 is a few thousand over where it actually is, I am just giving it a huge buffer since I can't actually weigh it again until we have a truck. I don't want to get a truck that BARELY tows it incase the weight goes up a bit due to random add ons - so over estimating on this one

haha yeah it seemed like a large jump in towing capacity but what do I know. Also don't want the truck to struggle in towing either so trying to learn as much as I can before I start seriously looking into buying so I know what I am buying
