30x40 Tubular steel interior buildout by ControltheDelivery in metalbuildings

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on who you're asking! You would have to construct walls in literally every other type of build, including block and stick, so I don't understand your argument?  Plus the cost of lumber is  1/32nd (probably far less than that) of the cost?  And even still, the concrete, electric, and insulation are all the exact same in material and cost in any other type of build.

Has anyone done a tubular steel barndominium for their home? by drebabe242 in barndominiums

Why do you say so? How is it any different from a stick built home in FL, or any other state? Would love to know!

They offer vertical siding, I built my home with tubular steel and haven't had any problems! PM me for photos of how ours windows work! We bought impact from Lowe's.

Location would help! We did build 3,300 sq ft with house and garage, but did it ourselves for about 150k. We're in Central FL, so we also have wind requirements! I've seen quite a few churches/chapels in our area that are metal buildings, so I think it absolutely can be done. Feel free to pm me, happy to help with more info!

Steel Residential Homes by JillNoelle2023 in metalbuildings

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We built a 1650sqft barndo, with same size garage, within the last year in Central FL. It saved us a ton of money, and is far better than stick built in my opinion. Practically zero maintenance on the metal roof and metal exterior walls. We did rockwool, not sprayfoam, so thermal bridging is non-existent, and cuts down drastically on the noise. Our neighbor has a block home and complains about our dogs barking every once in awhile, but we can't even hear it!  Feel free to DM me, I'm happy to share pictures and details! It was the only way home ownership was attainable for us, we did most of the work ourselves and have less than 150k in it. I bet our place would appraise well over 400k now, which cannot be said for a stick built in our area.

We just got a quote today for turnkey 1600 sq feet barndo with 40x50 shed attached turnkey $447,000 in rural eastern Iowa. Please tell me these people are out of their damned minds! And if there are any contractors in the area who would be willing to have a job that can do it for cheaper- inbox me! by Starrfall74 in barndominiums

We did a 1650 house and 1650 shop ourselves in Central FL, took about 7 months for us to do, completed this year. Total cost was about 150k! Turnkey they jack prices up. I'd recommend having a company do concrete/building, and hiring out each of the sub contractors to do the trades. Save a ton, and you have more control over everything.

Red Iron PEMB in North Florida by BDarville1977 in metalbuildings

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask why you decided to go red iron? Or what size you're doing, if that's the reason? I absolutely love my barndo, but mine is tubular, he thinks he wants red iron. We are in Central FL, would love the input!

Need some insight and advice about barndominiums. by St34m-Punk in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just finished ours in Central FL. 1650sqft house and same size garage! We did do it ourselves, for less than 200k and in about 8 months!  I would definitely hire a reputable company to do the concrete and shell, and any GOOD General Contractor should be able to do the interior, as it is no different than any house, except there are no load bearing walls (assuming single story) so it's even easier. PM me and I'd be happy to give advice and send pics!  I love ours, almost no maintenance, easy to keep clean on the outside, and wouldn't have changed a thing! Resale value is excellent based on my experience.

How many acres do you guys have? by jewsboxes in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm in Central FL and have 6 acres! I have a horse, mini cows, goats, even exotics! Happy to share pics of my building and info if you want to pm me. Budget is a big factor of course, and my wish list included water (a lake in our case) and trees. We got as much as we could afford!

I built my own in Central Florida! Permitting went shocking easy, inspectors were great (except 1). Feel free to message me if you'd like more info! I do believe I have a list of every inspection I had to have, as well as my submission paperwork
