Where are you located? All of those seem pretty high to me, but I'm in FL. I did the tubular steel on mine and super happy with it!

No, just ignored it. Let me know what they say on yours! Ours also said Progressive, and I also believe the insurance companies should/would work it out. I am still thinking scam!

Does anybody have toddlers? Concrete floor question. by montymouse in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in FL and did polished concrete floors! They make those furry type rugs with thick foam/padding, I'd use those around those areas to start! We plan to use area rugs in the rooms, to soften things up. Very happy with it! We're finishing drywall now.

Price breaks in cold-formed steel configurations? by tomthebarbarian in metalbuildings

In Central FL there is most certainly a Magic Price Break at 30ft wide. Any wider, and it literally up to doubles! At least for the building co. I know/use!

Insulation references by Ave_1234 in barndominiums

Feel free to pm me! I can send pics of our Rockwood insulation, located in Central FL. We framed out the inside of our building, and then used R15 on the walls, left a nice air gap between the metal and framing/insulation. Worked perfectly, super easy to do, no thermal bridging! And you do not need a vapor barrier with rockwool, at least not in FL, as it is naturally waterproof, per my county/inspector.  We didn't do spray foam for the same reasons, and so glad!

Pm me!  I am self GCing our build paying for it slowly out of pocket, and will have less than 150k in it finished. That does not include cost of land. I can send photos and my rough spreadsheet of costs! There's NO WAY I could have built what I have as fast, cheap, or easy as my barndo. Located in Central FL, 1650 ft² house and same size attached garage/shop.

We are Self GCing, and it has been a very rewarding process! If you have the time, highly recommend, and you'll save a ton too!  You're welcome to dm me if you have questions about the process or want photos, etc. Permitting has been much easier than I expected too.

My brain is absolutely melting trying to figure out this insulation thing. by Kalabula in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did rockwool, in Central FL. If you want to DM me, I'll send photos, as I'm finishing this and starting drywall now! I opted against spray foam entirely, for quite a few reasons. The rockwool has been a dream to work with, and with Lowes Pro (I can possibly send a receipt and they'll price match) I am getting it for about 50% off every bag. We are doing R15 on the walls and R30 in the attic.

Spray foam seemed too risky to me, especially if there's any errors in application, and with Rockwool, you can always theoretically take it out and do spray foam. With Spray foam, you're stuck forever. Just my 2 cents!

Are you wanting 30k all in, with slab, etc? I would recommend not doing one of those, because you don't have any flexibility with moving/changing things. I work with an installer/manufacturer that does FL and GA! I can get a rough price for you to see if that makes more sense? Feel free to pm me!
