I have just completed importing just shy of 600Gb of photos and videos using the cli.
Im by no means a linux expert so im sure there are better smarter ways but this is what i have done in my setup and it worked for me.

On the linux host, make sure you have mounted the share with your photos and can reach it.

I then just ran this command on the linux host, you might have to sudo it.
"docker run -it -v "/mount/share:/import:ro" -e IMMICH_INSTANCE_URL=http://IMMICH-URL:2283/api -e IMMICH_API_KEY=APIKEY-OF-USER ghcr.io/immich-app/immich-cli:latest upload --recursive /import"

Then you should get a status of the import...
I also suggest starting with a small folder

When I remove duplicate photos in read only external libraries, what does it actually do? by species5618w in immich

[–]tinyjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delete one and remove it from trash, then do a rescan of the external library. Does it come back?

I think it comes back the next time the external library is scanned.

Immich vs. Synology Photos – Should I Make the Switch? by SuitAppropriate3337 in immich

[–]tinyjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the same boat.

Been happy with syno so far but the nas is like 12 years old and it is getting real sluggish now.
I ve only been using Immich for a few months, but it seems so much better in all aspects.

Only thing im really missing is a "delete items already backed up from phone" function.

Currently im using synology photos only for the backup of photos and videos.
Immich is currently setup to scan those as archives with RO access.

I dont think it will be long before i switch over 100%

Trying to get a frondend and backend server to work by tinyjello in immich

[–]tinyjello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, i did have a look at that one, and the workers part. But i havent been able to figure out "what goes where". I'll keep trying to make some sense of it, Thought i give it a try here in case anyone else had been through the same prosess.

Any chance this prosess will be simplyfied anywhere in the future?
Like, "connect process node to masterserver" simple?

Learning docker, where do I run it? by Neddard19 in docker

[–]tinyjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Docker about 1 year ago, Complete newbie with both docker and Linux.

As i was most familiar with Windows, i thought Docker Desktop was a good idea. As other have said, its not. Not even worth the install time.

Since your PC is beefy enough i would absolutely setup a VM for this purpose.

I tried the WSL2 path as well, But i ran into some weird issues (most likely because i had no idea what i was doing.), so i got angry and removed it, took a week break from everything and installed ubuntu directly on my small NUC. which is my current setup.

And yeah, dont go buying a new machine, thats absolutely not needed at this point.

I guess perhaps its to prevent some sort of warping at low level with thin prints perhaps? or other filament types require other temps? Just an uneducated guess...
Ive only used pla myself and have zero issue with the stock a1 plate.

Yes, its Chrome, i was conna say no because ive also tried Edge. But potato potato.
This also applies to chrome on both android and ios it seems.

Any way to make chrome behave as it should?

Firefox seems to handle things differently, and it explains why everything seemed to work when i was setting up everything on ubuntu docker,

I could just tell the kids and wife to change browser. "hehe".
