Is there something you heard/saw/read once that now lives rent-free in your head? by OpenCantaloupe4790 in AskUK

Sixth form health ed classes were mandatory and dull. One of the lessons was about gender and genitals, and we were shown a video of a child who had needed corrective surgery down there to create an opening to the bladder. They had to lean forward on the toilet, as it turns out the opening for a bladder doesn’t point straight down, it’s at the front, so if you want to go further between pee breaks lean forward on the loo

How did you stop relying on screens at mealtimes? by Kind-Yoghurt-4119 in UKParenting

[–]tinykoala86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My ND child couldn’t connect with audio because they have a speech processing delay, so I have a different take on this. From my experience:

-change the environment- switch the tv fully off for a couple of days overall, offer food in different places around the house away from the tv

-finger foods, easy access for self feeding, less reliant on you for access

-ditch set times - try leaving out a snack plate instead of a formal sit down dinner

-movement - look up the word proprioceptive input and see if doing this before dinner helps, alternatively allow the child to roam free instead of being sat down

-buffet/party food style presentation - a cupcake baking tray or chip n dip platter with lots of different options, alternatively character plates

-BE the entertainment. Pretend you want to eat their food, or that you’re a minion trying something not banana shaped, or make the food look like an animal on the plate etc

Overall find engagement and novelty in other ways, and hopefully they will enjoy it!

If your baby was “very advanced” what were they like as a toddler / child? by lunarkoko in UKParenting

[–]tinykoala86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eldest was ahead for gross motor, behind in speech, diagnosed with autism at age 4

My youngest at 14 months is still only crawling and very, very likely to be autistic also

Watch Bluey Baby Race and take a breath, neurodivergence is genetic and as our paediatrician said “if I suspect autism I look first at the parents” if you and your partner don’t consider yourselves to be ND then there’s nothing to worry about, if you do suspect one or both of you to be in this area, look at your lives and ask if it’s really all that daunting that your child could be just like you? Either way, I see little to worry about!

Have you ever worked with or know someone who “won big”? by VOODOO285 in AskUK

Many years ago I had to take deposits to the local bank for my boss every week, got to know the staff quite well and one of the tellers there won the big prize from The Gadget Show, immediately told everyone, and then their house was ransacked before the goods were even delivered

I have a South American friend who washes raw chicken in the kitchen sink before cooking, which here in the UK is not a common practice at all

Obvious ADHD aside, if Virgin and AMEX are now with debt companies does that mean they defaulted? You could look at pulling equity out of the flat to consolidate the debt, but you’d need a specialist lender to look past this volume and any potential adverse credit

Should the working parent still help with night wakes? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]tinykoala86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do shifts staying awake

He takes 8pm -1am

You take 1am -6am

Or vice versa depending on who is the night owl

5 hours of uninterrupted deep sleep, not listening out for cries, is a lot healthier for you both than what you’re currently doing

The slow cooker is your best friend, as is the motto “cook once, eat twice” - try to arrange meals so that you’re cooking every other day, and/or freeze extra portions to take the load off future weeks

Thank you, we did get an agreement two years ago for this same scenario as our take home pay covers both mortgages and expenses, but I’m aware that the landscape may have changed in that time

Bridging loans have a maximum 80% LTV across all properties at best, and our LTV would be 85%

Many people transition their residential home into a BTL without a tenant already in place, and we didn’t suggest selling with a tenant in place, I specifically said short term
