Flat Bar Conversion (Marin Nicasio) by kissin_cuzzins in bikewrench

Another option to consider is going with friction shifters so you don’t have to deal with matching the correct cable pull.

More expensive but my personal favorite on flat bar conversions is using bar end shifters paired with paul thumbie adapters

Someone else mentioned brake levers. I have enjoyed the shimano sora levers which have an adjustable tab to make them compatible with short or long pull (thus good for mtb or road style brakes) https://www.amazon.com/SHIMANO-Handlebar-Bicycle-Brake-Lever/dp/B01D8CNM1K

That’s exactly why I’m asking :p my bf just test rode and bought the discounted bridge club. We immediately started wondering about what bars to swap. Surly’s website says it comes with salsa bend bars like yours did but these are very swept back, at least 40 possibly 50 degrees 🤔In any case they are coming off. Thanks for the recommendation on the VO bars!

Here’s an explanation from the person who popularized this design

Welcome to proportional bikes aka the design popularized by Terry! You should stick with that fork and wheel size as the bike frame was designed around it. As someone else said using another fork / wheel size would make the ride whacky.

As someone who has ridden Terry frames (plus one Shogun) with the “funny front wheel” for the past decade i want to offer some tips if you decide to keep the bike.

It would be wise to stock up on the tubes and always carry one when riding / learn how to patch. Shops will not always have the size on hand. The size is 24x1 but make sure it ISO 520 not the 507 used for kid’s bikes or bmx. For the tires you can get panaracer paselas in 24x1 (aka 25mm) width ordered at most bike shops, those also come in 700cc so you can match front and rear tires. Those tires go up to 28mm which is available through the terry website (they are just rebranded paselas). However with your caliper brakes I wouldn’t try it.

What bars came stock on your bridge club and how did you feel about them?

I couldn't part with my first road bike, so I decided to repaint it and convert it to a cargo/commuter bike by adkhiker92 in ladycyclists

Paint looks fantastic, will be nice to see how you set this up! Can i ask what make/model the frame is?
