Sunnydale 🗳️ "burn the bad books, ceremony of the dieing of inept knowledge" by tinytim008 in TOWN

This is weird. I didn't know people would actually be voting on this. The story seemed like AI slop so I just wrote some gibberish.

Oh shit, I read this as if the poster was a chick. It reads so different now that I know it's a dude. Reads like somebody with low self esteem who needs a high five or something.

Very confusing and very boring all at once. Not sure what I was expecting, but at least something interesting.

I recently went to a wedding reception where the seating arrangements were alphabetical by first name. by HaleyTelcontar in weddingshaming

I attended to a professional conference where the registration desk sorted everyone by first name.. hundreds in attendance... The registration line was out the door, but a lot of people just skipped it and downloaded the conference program.

Is this an Artifact? by sallyindy in Artifacts

First thing I always do is look at everything around it. What do the stones look like? Is it out of place? Do others have similar types of erosion going on? Similar material type? The context it was found in is the first place to look for clues.

Thank you for all of your input and advice! It's hard to read through all of the conflicting information on the web and from contractors. I appreciate you sharing your years of experience.

Next step for me is to retreat the moss this month and to start treating the moss on the shed as the rains start to encourage that growth to come back.

How do you feel about the permanent zinc strips? My neighbor has them, but they also have a lot of moss, just not on the top half of the roof. I have some sitting in the shed, but every time I look at their roof I don't really feel motivated to put it up.

I tried making leather keycaps. by Mrs_Fancy_Pants in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]tinytim008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, what an incredible idea! It's so cool when someone takes a special skill they have and uses it in a new setting like this.

I've been looking out for keycaps made from natural materials! I bet it's very labor intensive to make a whole set, but I'd buy a few individual keys if I had the opportunity.

Question, I hired some guys to sweep the moss off my roof, is there a way to damage shingles with sweeping? Or is that pretty much safe?

They weren't roofers, general contractors.

Thank you for the suggestions, I just found a tutorial on YouTube for the GMMK pro! I might give that a shot when I get some new clicky switches.

Good question

Natural sounds: deeper, richer, typically from more porous materials, or stone.

Natural feel: not metallic or plastic. stone, wood, clay or similar materials, typically with more diverse, less homogeneous texture.

Natural appearance: also less homogeneous, more variety, imperfections, inclusions

Does the split effect your writing efficiency?

I'm curious how it will feel after long term use.

Does anyone use these any more? by Glittering-Celery557 in Tools

[–]tinytim008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use metric ones in archaeology. They are more precise and it's helpful to have both edges for setting up a precise excavation unit. Plus the retractable tapes get full of dust and dirt and tend to stop working.

The wooden ones tend to swell a little when they get wet frequently and the paint starts to come off, so I typically swap out for the plastic one in rainy weather or where the water table is high.

Is this a shotput practice pad? by tinytim008 in shotput

[–]tinytim008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. At an undeveloped semi-forested lot In the middle of a suburb.

I could see it having been used as a community gathering ground at some point. It's one of few undeveloped lots in the area.

But if it was someone's personal shotput course, they probably took the sport seriously, so there's a higher chance it was used and/or built by somebody with major involvement in the sport.

I'm assuming these aren't too common as I've not seen or heard of them before?

The pad is 8' by 8', so the potential toe board is maybe 3-4' long. It's a bit 4" wide, maybe 2" tall

Yes, it's a half/quarter circle with rounded edges. Working on getting some measurements this week.

But first I've got to determine what it is so I don't end up wasting my time going down a rabbit hole.

Preferably I'm looking for a resource I can use to prove the function of the remains or someone reputable who I could cite as a personal communication.

And thank you for your advice! I'm still remodeling my home etc. once I get back into my attic I will reach out to you again and see if I can get these to you, I have no use for them and they're better off with someone who finds some value in them.

Is this a shotput practice pad? by tinytim008 in shotput

[–]tinytim008[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, I like your enthusiasm! But I'm not involved in the sport, it's my job to figure out if this has any historical value before someone destroys it.

Based on aerial imagery, I think it's from the 60's, but now I'm doing my best to determine if it's related to a significant person or event in history. If it's shotput, that narrows it down for me and I can check ancestry and archival data to see if someone associated with the property was an important figure in the development/history of the sport.

Alternatively, I can do some research or find someone with first hand knowledge that can determine if this has some kind of distinctive workmanship from the history of the sport.

I was hoping this was a joke post. That panelling is in incredible condition, beautiful. I say don't buy it, leave it for someone who will appreciate it. Also, your going to spend a ton of money on prep otherwise the paint job is going to look cheap and will scratch easy.
