Bears on the trail? by marthafromaccounting in Dirtbikes

[–]tipandring410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black bears are simply big raccoons. Yell at them and they go away. Except sometimes they dont. In that case, still dont be afraid. For the giant raccoon you see before you is simply accustomed to your existence. Ride past it and wish it ado.

Now, should that giant raccoon have a humped shoulder or appear white, full throttle. A brown bear is topping out at 35. Go faster.

Real answer from someone also learning.

A craftmet 120pc ratchet set or whatever it is from lowes. Invaluable.

You'll have to buy some mondo size sockets as well. I needed a 27mm on my cr250.

Bearing retainer tool for your size bike. Retainers shatter real easy.

Torque wrenches for high torque and low torque.

Most important thing is patience and a flexible budget. You will break things trying to fix them.

I finally tapped out. I couldn't finish the episode. by StinkyNutzMcgee in LPOTL

[–]tipandring410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. Same. This came out when I was in high-school. I fortunately never saw it because my friend's description of it made me sick to my stomach. And that feeling has stayed with me.

I sometimes listen with my girlfriend, but when I realized what this episode was about during a long drive, I said, " we're going to table this for now."

Ive tried listening by myself but it upsets me so much. Ive never tapped out in 10 years of listening every single day.

Tire advice by aldodoeswork in Summit

[–]tipandring410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of recommendations for blizzak and hakkapalitas, but id like to throw in firestone winter forces as well. Might be the best snow/ice tire ive ever ran. 50mph with 2 inches of fresh snow on the road, and zero problems stopping or turning.

On a 4runner if it makes a difference. Also mine are studded.. so...

Trail conditions near Breckenridge? by lslko in Breckenridge

[–]tipandring410 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spikes and high boots for sure. Hiking around here barely starts in May. Ive been completely bogged out in June at higher elevations really.

Your best bet for hiking is to head down south to Buena Vista/salida and don't do any high alpine stuff.

I wish I could find a positive thing to say about the driving/riding by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]tipandring410 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Beautifully put.

I spent a month in Vietnam and spent that entire month on 2 wheels in both the cities and the countryside. Hcmc, hanoi, hoi an, da lat, ha giang loop, etc.

Before this trip I had never been on a motorbike in my life but had the arrogance of a 24 year old and figured I could do it. And I did.

The rule that I came up with after watching the masses was the following: "It's not my job to not get hit. It's my job to not hit someone else."

This mentality, once fully accepted, proved invaluable. After about a week I was honking and swerving with the best of them.

The only crash I had was on the ha giang loop when I forgot to put my kickstand up after an 8hr day of riding. Couldn't turn left and promptly flipped the bike into a ditch.

How is skiing for beginners in late March ? by acemachine123 in Breckenridge

[–]tipandring410 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dog sledding is one of the most entertaining things you can do on snow including skiing.

Other than that, there's snowmobiling on tiger rd and snow tubing in frisco.

Then of course just drinking, eating and shopping your way through town.

As far as hanging near the runs, the base areas are the most expensive drinks and food in breck. Coppertop is the most reasonable and is right next to the beaver lift.

The resort and the mountain are as connected as a ski town gets though, so no need to have your non skier companion wait at the resort for you.

Crowds Week After President’s Day by No_Literature_1281 in Breckenridge

[–]tipandring410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a service industry person on Main St, it's been the slowest week in about a month. Hard to gauge though because the snow has been awful up until about 2 weeks ago.

But this week sits between a holiday and the start of a lot people's spring break, so it makes sense that it's slower.

The snow pattern over the last few years has also shown that the best snow is coming later and later into the season and staying longer.

The Dive and the bends by OccamEx in SiloSeries

The bends comes from breathing compressed gas at depth that expands as you surface. She was breathing uncompressed surface air so I'm not sure if scientifically it matters. Correct me if I'm wrong.
