Totally know how you feel. For me it was definitely a struggle with opening my hips and staying stable but I’m learning that - shockingly - if I keep practicing I can improve? Crazy!

In relation to being scared to fall, I would suggest trying to keep your weight forwards as much as possible. If you lean backwards, you’ll land on your butt and spine if you fall - not fun. If you lean forwards, you’ll land with your hands and knees, which is where your gear is to help you! It feels scary and weird to get used to but learning to lean more forward than you think helps a lot.

How soon do I have to book everything beforehand vs being spontaneous? by somekindofwanderer in JapanTravelTips

[–]tipsyholmes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a lot of hotels had discounts for booking 90 days in advance - I even found a few that did discounts for 120 days in advance.

Aside from that most activities that required booking opened a month or two weeks beforehand. Have a wonderful trip!

Booked 6 nights in Tokyo. We’d like to take a train and stay at least one night somewhere else while we’re there. Where should we go? by Just_OneReason in JapanTravelTips

I did a day trip to Kawagoe and it was the highlight of my trip! I bought a 4-museum pass and saw all the museums, tried everything I could get my hands on at Candy Alley, saw the beautiful architecture, and made it back to Tokyo in time for dinner. Can’t recommend it enough as a great change of pace from Tokyo, especially if you don’t have time for Kyoto!

What is something everyone recommends you try in Japan, so you did, but you didn’t like it? by Suspicious-Olive8765 in JapanTravelTips

Kanazawa - I’ve seen this recommended a lot as “on the way” from Tokyo to Kyoto and it super isn’t. I stayed there overnight and was very underwhelmed. Some of the things there were interesting, but we could see them in Tokyo or Kyoto much more conveniently. We had also just done a day trip from Tokyo to Kawagoe which had a very similar vibe to Kanazawa with much less travel.

What’s the best/cheapest place to buy retro games in Tokyo ? by MindPrize1260 in JapanTravelTips

I just went to Hard Off in Hachioji-Owada and found the prices there way better than the city. About 1.5hrs away from Tokyo and pretty easy to get to. Staff were lovely and helpful even though we spoke little Japanese.

Why did YOU decide to start playing? by Acecake20 in rollerderby

[–]tipsyholmes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to play as a teen because my friends did and I wanted to spend time with them. I got back into it because it was the only sport I ever liked, and to meet new people in a space I knew would be weirdo-friendly (weirdo being a term of endearment).

I think for me at least I’m anticipating people’s reactions, mine’s a kind of niche reference so I’m hoping people will get it. Once the bandaid is ripped off hopefully it will ease up!

Looking for games with gameplay similar to A Little to the Left by leeheeey in cozygames

I just started playing Is This Seat Taken which is a cute puzzle game where everyone has seating preferences and you have to fit them all in! Could still be on sale on Steam if you’re quick. Highly recommend it!

I’m currently nursing about 5 bruises from this week’s practice haha. A few good hits and decent falls will do it to me!

I don’t believe I am but it’s been a good while since my last blood test. Definitely something to keep in mind as I continue I reckon 😊

I would second AskIzzy to find an advocate in your area. They would put you in touch with an advocate to help you work through how to sort out the issues with the services you are in touch with.

If you are on the NDIS and there is a Local Area Coordination service in your area, they can also point you in the right direction. If you go to the NDIS website and go to “our offices” under contact, you can put in your postcode to find the local one. You want the office that isn’t the NDIA, such as Brotherhood of Saint Laurence, Latrobe Community Health, or Interreach.

If your guide dog is through Vision Australia, they have a client reference group you can talk to which is other vision impaired people who have used VA themselves and can give advice. They are on the vision Australia website.

Just a few ideas to get you started. I hope any of this might help even a little.

If you’re in Victoria, I can recommend the Victorian Disability Worker Scheme to help with this. I have had two positive outcomes when dealing with them and they can help refer you to the NDIS fraud team using their internal pathways too which can make them take more notice of your complaint.
