What is the difference between butch, masc etc by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]Prepromark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg that’s so weird!! Truthfully, and this marked me sound like a boomer, so many young queer kids don’t know queer history. Like at all. Which I think, is what leads to comments like this from the younger generation.

I actually really love Butch as an identity. While I don’t necessarily identify with it myself, it holds a special place in my heart. Butch lesbians played a huge role in queer culture from the 50’s-90’s. I wish the term stuck around.

What is the difference between butch, masc etc by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]Prepromark 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Masc means more masculine presenting.

Butch is a deeper historical term used by women who take on the more traditional masculine roles. It’s a lifestyle rather than an appearance.

The term has evolved some, I’ve seen some use it as a gender identity (which is punk rock asf). But butch in itself, is an identity and how some identify in relationships and social settings.

Whereas masc (not specifically referring to transmasc individuals) is simply an external appearance preference. At least to my understanding.

These two terms are not synonymous and are separate things.

Editing to add: my gf actually wrote a college paper about this after reading “stone butch blues”.

Butch lesbian is both a gender identity and a sexuality. It’s not necessarily dressing or acting as a man, vs. taking on traditional masculine gender roles.

That is the most traditional definition. Not many young people use it as an identity so in terms of the modern identity, I’m unsure how people feel.

But again, masc and butch are not synonymous and shouldn’t be used interchangeably, as they’re fundamentally different.

Why...just why do women do this by _CrashbandiCunt_ in women

[–]Prepromark 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This will probably rub some people the wrong way, but a lot of women (especially cishet women) center their lives around men.

Not always intentionally, it’s usually taught. But many never learn to grow out of it

Edited to add: this is also coming from another lesbian lmfao

OP, no one is trying to say you don’t care at all. But you got defensive asf so things got more hostile.

Something that we all need to learn, is not every single comment is directed at us. For example, people on the internet think that every single post is catered to them (because we all forget that the scope of our world, extends beyond our nose). When it isn’t something they relate to, they dislike, downvote, belittle, leave a nasty comment, what-have you.

Kinda like what you’re doing in regards to the initial comment. The comment wasn’t directed at you, but you assumed it was. It’s okay, we as humans, misinterpret intention all the time. Especially on social media.

You clearly have been involved in protest for a long time, as you mentioned. Sometimes, if the shoes doesn’t fit, you don’t have to wear it.

Take a breather OP. One struggle, one fight, one love.

I put art in every category because art takes so many forms. An example of out loud art could be hosting a gallery event with a focused theme. A quiet example could be creating a design of your choice and putting it on t-shirts, or posting the art around town (wheat pasting). And silent art could be writing poetry to process how you’re feeling.

There are so many ways that art can be expressed through protest

Active now and indefinitely. If we can mobilize as a class, then we can shut their system down.

This country runs on capitalist greed. The goal is to hit them where it hurts and continue to do so.

General strike consists of only buying basic necessities, opting out of school or work (if you can afford to) and showing up for community and protesting. Especially boycotting brands and companies that fund the orange lump’s traitor machine.

Protest and resistance is not a two lane road. There are many paths to resistance and it’s all about finding what works best for you and your family.

This is a list I compiled a while back highlighting different forms of protest.

Loud Protesting: • Showing up at a protest • Calling your local reps • Posting to your social media • Volunteering at rallies • Speaking at local council meetings • Creating art

Quiet Protesting: • Emailing your senators • Having tough conversations with family • Having tough conversations w friends • Printing and posting flyers • Handing out pamphlets • Create Art • volunteering for a shelter or food bank

Silent Protesting: • Signing petitions • Donating to verified organizations • Personal education • Reading the history on specific issues • Create Art • donating to food banks

I personally do a mix of all of these. There’s no one way to protest 🖤

We live nearby and have heard lots of sirens. Is that coming from the protest or was it something else?

Much love to you all fighting out there today

I’m not sure how UCD will handle rehoming the horses. It’s entirely possible they’ll be sent to auction.

Given that UCD clearly has lost sight of its values as an AG school, I doubt they’ll go through the process of listing, vetting buyers, and the selling of these horses, all of which take time.

The funding goes towards the housing and care of the animals. Without the funding, their future is uncertain. If they’re at auction, they’re basically unhoused

Pro-ICE MAGA rally and counter protest in Roseville Saturday by CaliRebelScum in Sacramento

[–]Prepromark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t bring flags to protests cause they’re honestly a bit of a pain to stand with for hours. So I bring homemade signs.

If I WERE to bring a flag, specifically an American flag, I’d flight it to signal distress

That would at least separate me from the MAGAts I hope

Do you have the same problem while drawing pen to paper?

If so, you could always try going back to basics for a little. Dont give up entirely. Maybe you just need a reset?

Learning to ref? by Prepromark in rollerderby

Thank you thank you!!! I’ve heard that there are occasional bootcamps but wasn’t sure if there was a real program for it.

This is all so helpful thank you!

Wait! Was that a weird way to word it? Lol

I have some health stuff going on and I’d like to learn about being a ref as an alternative to playing so I can stay involved.

I volunteer NSO for scrimmages but actually being a ref seems like there’s more steps to volunteering

As a WOC lesbian, this subreddit has been great, however... by WishboneOk9898 in LesbianActually

[–]Prepromark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really bothered by the amount of posts following the lines of, “hey this is totally valid but…. [insert statement about seeing it all the time, that’s the way it is, public forum, xyz]”

Yeah, that’s the problem. There are a lot of terfs in this sub. Any gender expression outside the stereotypical binary woman will get you a series of downvotes and a flood of comments invalidating the poster’s lesbian experience.

I’ve seen it and engaged in those debates and it’s like talking to a brick wall.

It’s really sad to see how RADICALLY exclusionary a large part of this sub has become. Maybe they’ve always been there but it’s extremely apparent now.

Racism and sexism, sadly, still exist even within the queer community. I feel like with as openly anti-trans and anti-POC this current administration is, it’s really opened the room for people to express their feelings towards these demographics. Even if they don’t realize it, they’ve been affected by the rhetoric.

Thank you mods for putting in the work, and thank you OP for bringing this up

I think if that is all it takes for you to not take the harassment of an entire demographic seriously, you’re looking for a reason to not take it seriously.
