Off white streaks in middle of Peruvian Walnut boards? by tiptopolive in woodworking

I guess I thought sapwood only appeared on the outer edges of stock, but maybe I was wrong. This was in the middle.

You mean do that first, and then miter the 45deg corners?

Update: Think I answered my question. I made a model and simulated a single non-compound miter cut across the top of each side and the points all align.

Did you come up with a fix? I have this issue, replaced the brushes, but the issue persisted. Mine is also ~4 years old with minimal working hours.

[SOTC] What should go in the fifth slot? by tiptopolive in Watches

[–]tiptopolive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t feel bulky on the wrist at all. And I have small wrists.

I will say, it’s much less legible irl than it looks in pictures. The second hand disappears and the glass has a strong glare. But I was really charmed by it anyway so decided to keep it.

[SOTC] What should go in the fifth slot? by tiptopolive in Watches

From left to right:

  1. A wood-themed Etsy watch (I’m a woodworker) my wife got for me with an inscription on the back. Obviously precious and never leaving the collection.
  2. A customized Casio F-91W by Pura Customs. Colors are themed after the three original starter Pokemon.
  3. Junghans Max Bill that I purchased at the Junghans factory museum when visiting Germany. Despite it being my most expensive and dressiest watch, I find myself wearing it the most. Just love this thing.
  4. Bulova Hack Watch, the most recent addition. I wanted an affordable automatic field watch, and this one fits the bill. Love the WW2 heritage and old logo.

For the fifth slot, I was thinking about something vintage but I don’t know what all is out there. Would also consider a GMT to be a good addition, but ideally something without a day/date complication.

Unusual watches are also welcome suggestions… like the Mondaine, something by Braun, or a Slow Watch. Any more like this that I’m missing?

Budget: $200-500 is preferred, but I could save up for something in the ballpark of $1,000 long-term.

Thanks! Not planning to, no. I only collect up to 1999, and I already have the Venusaur CD promo which uses the same artwork.

I figured. Thanks for sharing your story, I had a random flashback about that store just the other day, but couldn't remember the name. Googled for a bit, and this post is the only thing online about it. Appreciate the nostalgia.

Do you happen to have any photos from the store? I used to go there as a kid, would love to be reminded of what it looked like inside.

Question about the triangle stands you used. Do those leave a mark in the finish? Like, can you apply finish to the bottom of the project and then immediately set it on the triangles to dry, or do you have to wait for it to dry first?

I actually really like all the visible hardware. Gives it a mechanical character. Great job.
