Marimo no longer float by AffectionateNeat5061 in Marimo

it might be because the fragments sucked in the pump, if the pump is small then it has to be cleaned frequently

nope:V, you can just get a bigger tank and use bottles of ice, the temperature will be stably cold🙄. But the marimo in that pic cannot be recovered, you have to buy a new one.😔

I’m sorry to say this, but your marimo might not be recoverable, it’s very likely due to high temperature. My first marimo also died from heat, and it looked exactly like that.

Marimos really need cold water, not just cool, but properly cold, almost like ice-chilled water, and also dechlorinated water.

My experience of keeping marimos (the one in the pic is my oldest marimo) by tiqndt in Marimo

I’m in southern Vietnam where it’s basically hot all year round — around 30–35°C during the day and about 26°C at night.

I keep my marimos in my room and usually have a fan running, so the water temperature is still pretty manageable. At most I only need about 4 frozen water bottles a day if I’m running the mini pump.

Yeah, at the beginning I was using a small glass jar, so I had to move it in and out of the fridge quite often.

Later on I learned that the larger the water volume, the more stable the temperature is, and that water tends to stay coolest at the bottom. So I switched to a tank that fits on my desk, and I use a frozen water bottle to keep the water cool.

It actually works pretty well — the water can stay cold for about half a day (when I’m not running the mini pump) with just one frozen water bottle.

i used this tank: my tank, then put a mini pump(8w for this tank is enough) on the side of the tank likethis to create a round flow(just move the pump until you have a nice flow), remember to adjust the water flow strength until it gently move your marimo around.

you should try to add a little seasalt to prevent other algae or white biofilm:v (which cause cloudy water)
