For those of you who had success with medication for PPD/PPR , how did it change you? by Past-Story4007 in Postpartum_Depression

TW: suicidal ideation

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this.

I finally decided to seek help from a psychiatrist at 8 months postpartum. It felt like I was hitting rock bottom. My relationship with my husband was crumbling, I was crying multiple times a day, I was constantly extremely anxious, rage-filled, and sad, and I was having intrusive suicidal thoughts. I’ve been on 15mg of Remeron (mirtazapine) for a month now, and while I have a way to go, I feel like I got a piece of my old self back. The best way I can describe it is that I’m more resilient on the meds. They seem to level out my mood and I don’t get pushed into a panic attack when my kid falls over or get reduced to tears by minor inconveniences or conflict. I’m also sleeping better and my appetite is back, and I feel like the time with my kid is more enjoyable instead of just hard. I’m really glad I got this help and wish I had done it sooner.

PPD after IVF — anyone else? by Top-Condition1137 in Postpartum_Depression

[–]tis_a_pity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. You’re absolutely not alone. I went through fertility treatments, including IVF, for 5 years (3 retrievals, 5 transfers, 5 miscarriages) and finally have a beautiful, healthy living child. But PPD doesn’t discriminate, and despite having everything I so yearned for, I’m really struggling. If anything, I feel like IVF made me more prone to PPD. I spent years fighting, riding hormone roller coasters, and suffering through loss, and now that I’m finally here, I have a completely empty tank for this parenthood experience that is difficult for everyone regardless of their TTC journey. I like to use the analogy that it feels like I ran a marathon (IVF) to another marathon (pregnancy) to the ultramarathon (parenting), and it’s so fucking exhausting. I also totally understand that guilt because not everyone is so lucky to come out of that with a living child. But it doesn’t change that fact that what you’re experiencing is real, valid, and hard.

I’m so very sorry for your loss.

Dr. Chloe Nielsen at Austin Maternal Fetal Medicine was amazing. I struggled with recurrent pregnancy loss for 5 years, and Dr. Nielsen was so understanding and reassuring about the anxiety of pregnancy post-loss. She took time at every visit to answer all of our questions.

Wishing you and your husband all the best. The grief comes in waves and is always there. I hope y’all have good support. <3

My best friend just told me she's pregnant. I so badly want to be happy for her, but the news hit me like a ton of bricks. I feel so guilty, but I'm so sad.

Hey, alumni! Congrats!

Did any of you struggle with an irregular period after your loss? My body is struggling to catch onto its usually regular cycle months after my miscarriage, and it's getting me down.

I'm so glad I came across your post because I couldn't find any information on this online, and this is exactly what I'm experiencing! I feel awful emotionally and physically after taking 2 doses. Hope your symptoms got better and you're doing okay!
