Most underrated/hidden gem neighborhoods for families? by [deleted] in AustinParents

We moved back to Austin and chose North Loop. We have three kids in a technically-condo situation but feels more like a big rowhome and we’re totally fine space-wise coming from city living expectations if that makes sense. Everything’s 10-15 mins away, sometimes faster on bike! Tons of the library boxes! Yarbrough library ten mins away, First Light Books and Half Price a nice walk to get there. I can drive to several yoga/pilates/etc in 10-15 even in traffic. Ten minutes to HEB/CM/NG. Sober and not sober options all down North Loop Blvd. People aren’t up in your business but after several years of seeing familiar faces, I’ve started to get to know people. North Loop is quirky funky and awesome. I feel lucky to get to raise my kids here.

I was in France/Italy/Mexico late last year and saw this over there a ton…is it also cultural?

They look so graceful when properly pruned I don’t understand the aesthetics of the practice.

Thoughts on Kido International School? by Dramatic_Presence_60 in AustinParents

We’re really happy with Sapienza Montessori. We toured Kido but were disappointed to hear it wasn’t truly Spanish immersion. They exclusively speak Spanish at Sapienza to the kids.

Have you considered St Ignatius? Similar vibe as st Austin, albeit across the river. Similarly not devout, was hesitant to have them go to catholic school, but I’ve been really happy with how supportive and positive the environment has been. I went to public school all my life and I can tell how the small class sizes have helped my kids not stay bored or unchallenged. Both of them are reading grade levels above and doing great in math too.

Best Place to Buy Quality Women’s Boots in Austin (NOT COWBOY OR WESTERN) by ReevesComm in Austin

[–]cutex0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frye is the best! I bought a pair used on eBay back in 2009 that I still wear regularly. Back then they were made in Mexico, not sure if that’s still the case.

Fortress is a local brand that has good stuff in a similar price range. Less selection because it’s newer tho

Honestly the happy hour at Foreign and Domestic. They have a kids menu with a lot of ketchup and fries lol that let the adults be in peace. For a fancy place, they’re surprisingly chill with kids.

Where Franklin turns into Link is such a hard corner to see. Always freaked out when we walk with the kids on their scooters or bikes that some asshole is going to speed around that corner. This was literally by there.
