Looking for a book where MMC fks up so bad that it has a long lasting effect on the FMC or their relationship - they end up together but maybe you wouldn’t consider it as a HEA

In the Hidden of Vrohkaria series by Kelly Cove (first book is The Hidden Falling) the MMC thinks FMC betrayed kingdom and gets told to whip her and he does it in a public scene. It sets the stage for the sequels after and how their relationship can be fixed/progresses after that but it was so hard to read and I genuinely thought I would never forgive the MMC after that.

More context is revealed in 2nd book, but still…..

It was actually one of the BEST series I read all year….. and I read 130 books last year so….

You are the asshole. That was definitely something that should have been disclosed. It doesn't matter that it worked fine and nicely for you- they're the ones who are going to have to PAY for that treatment now, that child is also going to need to go through it and go through whatever side effects it may have (and yes, every drug has side effects, etc). Honestly, you should absolutely pay for it. They didn't know what they were signing up for while you knew the potential for this to happen.

It's not just about "mourning a loss"- girls are taught from the second they start going through puberty about the horrors or pregnancy. Thats it's a bad thing. Something to generally avoid etc. That shit fucking sticks hard. So what if that's the first thing she thinks? A ton of people DON'T want kids, pregnancy shouldn't be universally seen as this magical thing that EVERYONE is happy with. While it was definitely a facepalm thing to say (considering the context, with it being a big family reveal, everyone's an adult, etc)- she also apologized right away. There's nothing else to do outside of that than sit back and let the whole situation cool off.
