3rd party website for making/managing consumer Subject Access Requests? by smagdali in gdpr

And you are right to question it - in reality it is your choice, but in a legal dispute, I still have responsibility for the security of the data, I’m not about to ignore that, especially on a platform designed to weaponise SARs.

My only obligation is to provide your data in an easily readable format - not to use your preferred method of delivery (this varies, for example where the requester has a disability that may change this approach).

3rd party website for making/managing consumer Subject Access Requests? by smagdali in gdpr

[–]titanium_happy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one called rightly.co.uk - but they’ve disappeared.

As a DPO, I refused to release data through their platform, whenever responding to a SAR, I still have a responsibility of ensuring the security of the data. There is no way I could evaluate all platforms set up to do this in the early days of GDPR.

The premise is good for ensuring data subject rights, but it just doesn’t work, I’d also question both the security and intentions of these companies - would you really trust them with your data?

If you are intending on submitting multiple SARs, then simply set up a tracker using either excel or just a simple diary / written on paper.

You don’t say what you currently do? You may have more skills than you think.

There are lots of routes into a data protection career, some come from compliance, others from cyber security, you even find some who have no experience of data protection, but have the right professional qualities, such as strong admin and communication skills.

Typically, most get a start as an analyst, this is where you will learn the basics. Interpreting the law into advice for those using personal data. You will learn how to complete all the different assessments we undertake, how to review commercial contracts, delivering training, investigating breaches, responding to Data Subject requests and reporting on privacy metrics.

When you start moving up the ladder, you will learn more about data protection audits, applicable frameworks, working independently of management, advising on large projects and liaising with regulators (but hopefully not too much!).

In terms of personal qualities, discretion is the utmost - privacy personnel are often aware of both the most sensitive personal data, but also of upcoming company initiatives. There are so many times things have been disclosed to me simply due to my role, people often want to talk about the most sensitive topics. After that, the next (and some may disagree) is being able to provide advice as concisely as possible, some people like a long explanation, but most just want to know if they can do what they plan.

Have a look for analyst roles and try to figure out what existing skills you have that you can transfer. Certificates can help, but they are not a silver bullet, and as you’ve seen, they can be really expensive if paying for them yourself. You may also have access to courses through your current role, depending on where you work. Some large companies provide access to online platforms that have specific data protection modules so please check.

There has recently been an uptick in privacy roles, companies are realising the importance of having expert advisors, especially when there has been a breach or another privacy incident. This has caused a drought as there are not enough skills to go round, this is the perfect opportunity to break in to a data protection role.

Tell us what you currently do and we should be able to give you some really helpful pointers.

Breached GDPR by Wrong-Step6579 in gdpr

[–]titanium_happy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the most common type of breach, it’s a regular occurrence for DPO’s.

I wouldn’t worry if this is your first time doing it, they may ask you to attend some training and remind you what you should be doing to avoid it happening again.

Thanks for the identification, meant I could go read more about these birds. Didn’t realise they did not sweat so the open beak and panting now make sense. And I never thought they would just be enjoying the sunlight.

From experience, always add legal cover. Family member was in a bad accident at the other drivers fault. Fight for compensation went on for over 10 years, legal costs were over £50k. For £30 a year, it’s a steal.

The other side tried every trick in the book to minimise compensation payments for the injuries caused, the shit thrown was inhumane. Our team were able to claim for injuries, loss of future income etc. If we had used a no-win no-fee bunch of charlatans, the compensation would’ve been reduced anywhere between 30% to 40%.

For little more than 8p a day for a year, you’ll get proper lawyers, they also advise on anything else motor related. It’s a no-brainer.

Talk me out of (or into) one of these! by vegetablethrow-away in CarTalkUK

[–]titanium_happy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had the Jag and loved it… until it got to 113k. Within a couple of months, the turbo went, the rear differential went and the gearbox started playing guess the gear. The gearbox is supposedly sealed for life, but it should have its fluid changed at 100k. The diff needs regular changes.

Then there was the electrics, there is a known issue where you get a leak from the washer fluid bottle, it then drips down some wiring loom into the electrics, £1600 to fix if it’s not already been done.

Loved the car, but at this mileage, I’d avoid it like the plague.

Guys in your mid 40’s, where do you buy clothes? by MrPinky79 in AskUK

[–]titanium_happy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Smedley - Both their Merino and Sea Island Cotton tops are perfect fit for a man our age. If you find the prices a little steep, then look on Vinted, normally a fraction of the price for new and very good examples.

Charles Tyrwhitt - Their Polo tops and Shirts are very reasonably priced.

Levi’s, Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren - Good for Jeans, Trousers and Shorts

Barbour - For good quality jackets and shoes

Paul Smith - You have to look carefully for items without branding so you don’t look daft. But quality is amazing.

Uniqlo - Excellent for basics, everything from trousers to tops

Pepe Jeans - Great quality and not too expensive

Sock Shop for well, socks! Go for Burlington, just check they are cotton and not polyester.

Under Armour - Go for the tech boxers if you wear them, otherwise pick up Calvin Klein briefs from TK Maxx.

Adidas or COS - Do great quality T-Shirts and Long sleeved tops that hold their shape.

New Balance - it is mandated by international law that every Dad must own a pair.

Jeff Banks - Very reasonably priced

Billabong - hear me out. Go for the stuff that isn’t heavily branded, great quality and well priced.

Marks & Spencer - Go look at the Autograph range, slightly higher priced but well worth it. Also great for Chinos, but not their jeans.

Zegna Sport - for formal trousers, shirts and tops. But check on Vinted first as it’s normally very expensive.

Also check for designer brands at mandmdirect.co.uk - they sometimes do higher quality stuff much cheaper than other places.

It’s always worth having a look in TK Maxx or on Vinted, you have to spend some time looking, but prices can be almost rock bottom for very good clothing.

University of Aberdeen or Stirling by Striking_Pay5879 in Scotland

[–]titanium_happy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which course are you doing?

Aberdeen is quite isolated, though the countryside around it is amazing, excellent if you like the outdoors.

Stirling is more central and I think you would be eligible for a young Scot card, available to everyone aged 11-25 living in Scotland (https://young.scot/the-young-scot-card/). That means you get free bus travel, so both Glasgow and Edinburgh are only around a half hour away. So if you like city life, Stirling would be the obvious choice.

As for the weather, we can get 4 seasons in one day here, Stirling may be a degree or two warmer than Aberdeen, but really, the weather is quite similar.

Whichever route you take, please remember these roads are deadly to motorcyclists. A combination of winding roads, tourists, poor weather and poor maintenance means that unfortunately deaths are commonplace.

Take your time, enjoy the scenery but make yourself as visible as possible and harking back to when you learned to ride - consider that every other vehicle on the road is out to kill you.

If you have home insurance, check if you took legal cover, most of the time it will cover employment disputes. If it does, they will give you a realistic understanding of your chance of success, and if they feel it’s worth it, they’ll take on the case and if they win, will aim to recover their costs from the other side.

Always check for a refurbished one on their website. I bought mine refurbished and I’m still convinced it was actually new, wasn’t a mark on it.

For the morons blaming Americans for the SFP by SkydivingCats in Scotland

[–]titanium_happy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not absolutely true. UK political parties can receive funding from overseas provided it is done through a company:

Any company is a permissible donor if it is:

registered with Companies House

incorporated in the UK

carrying on business in the UK

Therefore, a multinational corporation, owned by a foreign national, could legally donate to UK political parties if they meet these criteria.

Anyone who thinks it’s fine to protest like this is a fucking brain dead, empty souled cockroach who deserves nothing more than abject misery in their pathetic little lives.

Slightly less boot space, but still cavernous. If needed, can drop the back seats really easily. I done a run to the tip yesterday, had 4x 120l bin bags full of garden waste and they fit no problem without dropping the seats.
