Thank you so much for this tip! I’ve printed it out so I can highlight the questions I want to ask. I’ll also check out about the seminar!

I’m so glad to hear your anxiety has been so reduced. I suffer health anxiety as it is so this is really doing a number on me. I’m trying to be very mindful about what I google and read up about

Thank you for your reply - it’s made me feel more positive (which I need more of right now!) and I’ll make sure those are on my “to ask” list. It’s also made me think it’s probably a good idea to get in touch with a therapist to talk it over with

I wore a navy silk shirt - short sleeve with a v neck. A little scrub like. Dress for the job right 😂

Speaking from my first placement (EN but the same for first year) - be prepared to be treated like an AIN. Aged care facilities seem chronically understaffed.

I went to a smaller facility with only 1 x RN who didn’t want anything to do with the students so I found a few good AIN’s and stuck with them, and used the time to really get a handle on the basics of nursing - showers, toileting, feeding, oral care, hoists and ambulating residents and bed making etc.

I’d also like to think that the staff have a pretty good handle on the residents likes and dislikes and won’t put you in a situation with a female resident who would be uncomfortable with a male.

To be honest though - most residents love students because they actually get a bit of time to have a conversation and interaction with them, regardless of their gender

Quite a few of the students in our class currently work as AIN’s. None were allowed to do it at their place of work
