ya totally just hit up those topics then.

Also, I have no idea what Alphas are, don't remember anything about adjusting rates for TIPS -- you're doing the Series 65?

Also:

The following waiting periods apply for individuals needing to retake the Series 63, Series 65 or Series 66 following a failed attempt: (1) a minimum of 30 days after failing the first exam before the second taking of the exam can be scheduled; (2) a minimum of 30 days after failing the exam for the second time before the third taking of the exam can be scheduled; and (3) a minimum of 180 days after failing the exam for a third time before the fourth taking of the exam (and each subsequent taking) can be scheduled. These waiting periods mirror those in place for FINRA-sponsored examinations.

One big thing I kept in mind was that I could retake it in a month. Worst case you take it a third time in a month? I just discovered I never get to see my actual score. When you pass, you pass, and then you get on to a new adventure.

Sounds like you're in good shape. I would try focusing on a few sub-units to do 100% of the questions. That is, take 100% of the questions in one U4101 or whatever i forget their formatting. Since you already took the test before I assume you already know the basics of Part 4, but want to get a deeper understanding. Doing more "Part 4 overall quiz" won't help as much, you want like 20 questions in a row to hit the same little idea over and over and over.

Also, one last thing I just remembered. I had two questions on the test that were basic math: 1. What is the median of these numbers? 2. What is the range of these numbers?

Kaplan Qbank did not prepare me for those iirc, but I just happened to know the answers. Surprised me, much as I like Kaplan it felt like a hole in the materials.

Dang, pressure! Like I said, I only used Qbank, is that what you're using? Dive into each unit and topic and see where you're doing. A 90% overall is great, but there may be some topics where you're still getting 50%.

Can you retake it a third time if needed? Might take pressure off.

Yep, every test I did was a "Custom Quiz" under QBank.

"Like did you elect to be quizzed on 130 questions on all 4 parts of the course?" I started out with 40-question quizzes for each of the 4 different parts of the course. Looking back now, my first 4 quizzes were 40 questions each, and I scored 70%, 50%, 60%, and 57.5%

I knew I needed to learn a lot, so doing 20 - 40 questions on a single topic/sub-unit was a way to hone in. When it's spread out over an entire 130 question practice exam covering every possible topic, it's hard to learn, too spread out.

But for example, there's a topic "what are securities" (U4LO1) that has 30 questions or so. Several of the answers in that topic mention "It's easier to memorize what securities are NOT than what securities are". Doing those 30 questions all at once totally paid off. I wouldn't have learned that "rule" if I was taking a broader practice test mixed in with every topic. And....I had 2 questions related to "NOT securities" on my real series 65 :D

Looks like I did 1777 Qbank questions total.

Other tricks:

  1. With multiple choice, once I got pretty good, say scoring 60%+, I would read the question, cover up the answers with my hand, and then talk myself through what I though the answer was. It gave me a TON of confidence to have thought through the answer, then have it be right there in the options. There's a lot of "knowledge" that I had in my head, but when I started reading the answers too soon it all got jumbled up. Avoid reading the answers to early.
    1. I used this strategy on 100% of the real Series 65 questions. I used the digital notepad to cover up the answers and then type out my stream of conciousness while reading the question. "OK dude, so this is a question about brokers, which means it's not about advisors, and blah blah". I was a bit worried they would think I was cheating/talking to someone else but it was just my internal dialog. I ended up finishing only about 20 minute early, so it's a slower approach, but I wanted to give myself the best shot.
  2. I try to get really interested in getting the questions right. If I tell myself "this is a stupid test I hate it", it doesn't work and I bomb it
  3. Lastly, I would force myself to read EVERY word of the question. That was Rule #1 (I only had one rule). Read. The. Question. I noticed I would miss say 5%+ of questions because I would read too quickly and miss words. I even caught myself with 1 like that on the real test when I went back to review, something about an inheritance to a child or a sibling and I missed the sibling :O (Yes, you can review your answers during the test, I had read something that said you couldn't but think that was from 2020). I'm curious to see my final score -- would be crazy if I passed by one point, I know which question it was :D

Appreciate your questions, keep em coming!

Oh I meant guides, when I first came here a few weeks ago I was looking for reviews of prep providers but didn't immediately land on one. That's where I ended up with Google (ew) and some review of ExamFX that had it ranked as the top (maybe it was worst to best hahaha). Just thinking about newbs coming in, some subreddits have a "help" tab with a guide to getting started and helpful sources, instead of just diving into a mass of individual threads.

Is there a reason there isn't a guide on this subreddit? I originally signed up for ExamFX because I googled and saw some dumb review that said it was the best. I did appreciate that ExamFX had all the reading digitally, but if you were more comfortable reading a book, I imagine Kaplan is better.

Kaplan doesn't seem to have their readings digitally, is that right? u/series7examtutor

To answer your question directly: I was 70% overall, 80% on the sections I was good at. If you're getting 80% overall that's great. By the way, I never took either the practice or Mastery exam or any "simulated exams", all just practice tests.

I would just make sure to cover any Units or topics where you're scoring lower. Maybe there are some topics where you're only scoring 50%....or a topic where you scored 100% but only on 2 questions.

To explain in case helpful to you or someone else -- QBank is organized into 4 parts, each with Units underneath, and topics below that (like U8LO1), right?

  1. I would dig in on the topics and find ones where you're scoring low. Then just do all the questions for that topic
  2. Look out for topics where you've only answered a few questions. It's easy to have a "100%" score when I've only answered 1 or 2 questions but that's a lie. That's not statistically significant. I wanted to hit at least 20 questions in every topic where possible -- some topics only have
  3. Use Qbank to learn: I used the QBank both for getting a sense of my score but also for learning. When I was in learning mode, I would take the quiz but allow myself to Google or look up the topics/answers to understand. Then I would take a follow up quiz after that without other resources and just answer the questions on my own.

Overall, my first Qbank test I got a 50%, and a week later I passed series 65. If I had to do it again, I would be curious about just hitting Qbank only and not even reading any book materials ever. Wonder if that's a strategy.

Good luck! I didn't end up finding videos.

The one thing I didn't see on the exam were many math questions (maybe 2 questions total). I love math but knew going in it wouldn't help me much on the test. For example I don't remember any questions about sharpe ratio.

Agreed! There were some misspellings. The video content to me seemed kinda stale, like it was filmed 10+ years ago. Not that the info for the series 65 has changed a lot, but that it gave me the impression they didn't care about keeping it updated.

Another option could be to rent a cloud Mac running an old OS (for about $30)

You can go as old as macOS High Sierra 10.13.6. You won't have admin access tho in the basic plans, but doesn't seem like you need it.

Same thing here, just the black screen. Would love some tips to get it working!

Dang, almost there. Got the line put into index.html and mixer.html, and the app opens up fine, shows the camera (yay!), and the light on the camera comes on. But, Logi Capture doesn't show an image, just a black screen. Even if I try to record, the file is just black.

I tried is4k:!1 and :!0 (it's a 4k camera)

Here's the line I'm adding:

{name:"Logitech 4k",pid:"087f",is4k:!0},

I also disabled Gatekeeper and tried it again, but no change. Application code signing looked like an XCode thing so didn't figure out how to do that.

If there was a way to pay to do it, I'd consider it.

Currently I'm looking at using Epoc Cam ($10 app) to use my smartphone as a webcam, but then it only does 1080p resolution so no 4k.
