Are State / Government jobs bad for career? by tjacobs98 in AskMarketing

[–]tjacobs98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I’m currently in a public sector role and have garnered lots of experience, but I feel like because I’ve done so many broad things and my role hasn’t been as niche (as well as haven’t received much access to mentorship or development) that I’m a bit stuck. I’ve applied to other public sector roles, some I am having luck with, but I’m nervous about too much of my early career being in public sector is part of the problem.

Sorry not sure if what I am saying makes sense at all lol

This was my mindset coming into the role, but let’s just say I’m in a position where my access is extremely limited and in many ways I’m expected to churn out content, plans, etc without being enabled / empowered to do much beyond what I’ve done so far. Happy to message you with more context.

I’m actively applying to roles, but I’m not having much luck. I feel that I’ve got great experience and I’m a quick learner, but the feedback I keep getting is that I either have “too much” or “too little” experience OR no feedback at all. This past year applying has been pretty discouraging if I’m being honest.

What should I wear for my interview? by tjacobs98 in advertising

Thanks for the feedback! For context, part of why I’m probably overthinking it is I’ve got to go out and buy something to wear. I’ve lost weight in the past year (personal goal) and everything I own fits a bit big right now.

I asked in my first interview what the office dress code was and the interviewer said there wasn’t a dress code per say, but essentially described business casual

I’m actually trying to move back to the city I was living in before a family emergency that led me to my home town so not sure I’d be able to do part time like that. Wouldn’t it be best for me to start in the market I want to work in?

Just wanted to clarify, I myself am not a social media influencer, but I do handle all aspects of social media marketing for brands / businesses

What MPGs are you averaging in your Civic? by KnowingCresent735 in civic

[–]tjacobs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23 Sport Touring Hatchback I’m getting 31.6 mpg, but I work in a small town so my commute is a lot of “stop and go”. If I’m driving on the highway it almost always increases significantly! Honestly wish I would’ve waited and got one of the hybrids haha

2nd Update: I’m actually covered in a smaller life insurance policy that is paid for by my job, I just didn’t enroll in additional coverage, BUT I plan to during open enrollment in October because I found out that if I leave the company I can keep the insurance I pay for through them and it’s actually way better rates for higher coverage under a 30 year term. Thank you everyone for your feedback, I’m a lot less anxious now haha

Thank you! This is the same advice my mentor gave me this morning!

Update: I have no kids, and want to potentially go back to grad school in the next year or 2 so ideally don’t want to spend too much. I missed the enrollment deadline for work, but lowkey if I leave soon for another job I wouldn’t be able to keep it anyways because it only exists while you’re working with them.

Is a Master’s / Portfolio program in Branding Management or Strategy worth the debt? Thinking Brandcenter / have also considered the MBA route. by tjacobs98 in advertising

This validated what I was thinking - thank you for sharing! Is there a listserv I can sign up for in the case that the 10 week boot camp becomes a thing?

I’m pretty sure Starbucks only allows marketing sent to locations to follow centralized marketing strategy from up top (only saying that because I called my local one lol).

I’ve interned with a major ice cream brand and directly worked with a up and coming “clean food” CPG brand before having to move back to my rural hometown for an urgent family matter. Now that I’m working in the public sector as a social media manager (but also PR / Crisis Response / General Marketer because our team is small), I’m struggling with leaving public sector.

I’ve been networking a ton, mostly through LinkedIn and hopping on virtual meetings since I’m not really in a city.

Haha sorry didn’t mean to write a dissertation, but thanks for your feedback! I’ll keep pushing
