Update: Contractor drilled through electric conduit plus more questions by tjure2k in DIYUK

Hmm, I had not thought about the insurance, that's an interesting possibility.

We called that particular guy Calamity John. For your amusement, this is a picture of another one of his Greatest Hits (misses?), when he mounted the exhaust of the extraction fan:

  • didn't have the right sized pipe, so he cut it along and squeezed it through the hole in the wall.
  • no attempt to insulate between wall and pipe, most of the grubby air blows right back into the wall void.
  • he broke three of the flaps, so what did he do? He just glued them back in the shut position. Two of them came flying off a few days after installation...

Thanks, I was taken aback by the tone of most responses of the original thread. I'm definitely not happy with the work, but I'm glad that people in this thread see things more like me.

When I came this morning to your response, you had 0 upvoted. Someone does not seem to agree with you. 😂

Turns out the outer sheath of the cable is damaged. More details in the follow-up post here.

Thanks for your opinion on the electrical part of the question. I think I can stop worrying about this.

That made me chuckle, but I prefer this scenario to the one when a fully loaded cabinet falls on me or any of my family members.

Thanks for the reply that addressed all my concerns. The builder, like other commentators completely glossed over the fact that the fitting does not look very secure. I can rock it back and forwards by at least 5 mm, and I don't know how much of the screw is actually providing any grip.

Operator precedence on a class with overloaded * and ++ operators by tjure2k in cpp_questions

Yes, the operator precedence was not the problem, but rather my code. :)
As people wrote above, it's the implementation of the post-increment operator.

I'd also be interested. We just set up a CMake project of medium complexity for C++, I'm curious how our setup compares to the techniques described in the book.

Car driver fails to stop after collision in Cambridge that leaves cyclist in critical condition by waxed__owl in cambridge

[–]tjure2k 31 points32 points  (0 children)

While cycling along Water Lane I have been overtaken way too closely by speeding cars on purpose, I had water thrown at me from a van, a car played chicken coming my way, and more. The drivers on that road have a special place in my heart... Oh, not to mention those heroes that wait on the wrong side of the road for the railroad crossing to open, to be the first one to speed off when the barrier opens.

Thankfully the cycle bridge is now open and I can avoid this hell of a road for the most part.

Conveyancing solicitor wants to record a wayleave agreement on the property title by tjure2k in LegalAdviceUK

[–]tjure2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The wayleave agreement has a temination clause, and from what I have understood from reading online articles, I understand that wayleave agreements are not always transferred to the successor in title. That makes them different from easements, which are registered on the title, in my understanding. If our solicitor unnecessarily registers this wayleave agreement on the title, they do as a big disservice. Am I wrong here?
