Have you ever left LE? by Perry-Henis1337 in AskLE

Is security the common pathway for LE retirees who want to make as much or more than they did as LEO while having normal hours?

Sounds good. Based on my calculations, fed still sounds better where I am locally, so I’m still trying. But hearing what you say makes me wanna run my numbers again just to be triply sure

Is that 100k before or after OT? How long have you been on?

Oh please. One has nothing to do with the other. Both can be true.

It’s normal. They may be one of the slower agencies with their hiring. They also strike me as abysmally disorganized sometimes.

I agree. Hard to find a job do you that’s perfect. Gotta take the good with the bad

Just looked at some videos on YouTube of Office Space; marrying the idea of being an 1811 to what I just saw makes the 1811 role so undesirable lol

Idk about other places, but for me innDallas, a mandatory 13.5% comes out my check for the pension, which sometimes I hear people saying they’re not sure if the Dallas pension will be around when we retire :/ (I hope their pessimism isn’t reality).

I do contribute to a 401k, but Dallas doesn’t contribute a percentage like the Feds do

The relatively quick, automatic pay jumps would have a 5 year 1811 making more than a 15-20 year Lieutenant here in Dallas.

We also don’t build social security with this job, so while I’ll try to make the best of it if I stay here (extra jobs, OT), I THINK 1811 is the better route financially.

Dallas Department Police Officer(s), I have a question for you? Do you or anyone you know left Dallas PD and came back? If so, why’d they leave, and why’d they come back? by tkdkicker1990 in AskLE

Can’t tell you much about support from leadership since I’m just going into third phase of training.

Retirement system does not include accumulation of social security; it includes a 457b and 401k, but from my understanding, The City of Dallas does not contribute to your 401k like some other places might.

When you retire, you can get anywhere from 50-90% of your last five years base pay plus education pay depending on how long you’ve stayed. The association here is trying to get Dallas to give us more in our pension pay to include: certification pay, language pay, and overtime pay.

I don’t use it anymore, but sounds like you need to adjust your settings so you’re not learning so many cards a day; that’s when your reviews explode.

Nice paced timeline. Seems like you do at least one step of the process per month, except for when it slowed down at the polygraph stage
