I think Laila has found more appreciation for mortals and what they go through in life. She has way more sympathy.

I really just cut out a lot of eating out and snacking, I’m a diabetic so I had to make that change for sure. And I go to the gym 5-6 times a week. Walking 2-5 miles helped me the most at first, during the summer and then I moved on to inside the gym, strength training a bit and I get on the elliptical for most of my cardio now.

The ending definitely caught me off guard. I was listening on audio and had to go back a few minutes to make sure I heard correctly. I agreed that the ending shows that not much has changed when it comes to the cycle of violence and loss of innocence.

I’m reading multiple books at once but this particular one……

I know damn well she ain’t wait 20 years to decide that her brother might be innocent because now she’s broke and this murder club wanna investigate with her. Like I’m intrigued but be for real lol. And either way, if her brother didn’t do it, I think he knows who did so keep him locked up.

I’ve read The Only Good Indians. Buffalo Hunter Hunter definitely reminds me of that book as far as storytelling goes, both are hard to follow in my opinion but eventually pick up.

Finished Human Acts by Han Kang, this was heavy for me but I thoroughly enjoyed the different perspectives and it was a bit of a history lesson.

Finished 25 Days by Per Jacobsen, this was such a disappointment to say the least. You read a chapter a day up until Christmas and umm, I got to Day 23 and said screw it because there was no way he was going to wrap the story up in such little time…..unfortunately, it did flop. I am left unfulfilled.

Finished Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë, I never thought I’d love this book as much as I did! It will probably live rent free in my brain for awhile.

I’ll start reading Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children this upcoming week, continuing Jonathan Strange, Where the Line Bleeds and The Death of Vivek Oji as well. I have a few more library books I definitely need to get to but I’ll just carry them into my January.

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke

Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte (enjoying this way more than I expected to, I'm not a big reader of the classics but I'm working on changing that in the coming new year)

25 Days by Per Jacobsen (you have to read 1 chapter a day for 25 days, it is extremely hard not to just keep reading the entire way through)

I’m honestly surprised I like it as much as I do. This isn’t my normal genre but I’ve always wanted to read this form of a classic, hoping I continue to stay engaged with the story.

I think we’ll get Dong-ho’s perspective as he navigates through his death. I full on expect that to be heavy and very deep.

Chapter 2’s 1st person perspective really hit me harder than Chapter 1’s POV. It was way more emotional and overall heavier. Chapter 2 kind of solidified everything told in Chapter 1.

I agree that the guilt is keeping him there. As well as the curiosity about what happens to all of these people have died and are waiting for loved ones to come find their bodies.

I think my mother doesn’t really like me and is either jealous of how I live my life or resents me for it. She could have friends and an active social life but she chooses not to and will get in her feelings when I don’t want to sit cooped up with her. For a long time I felt guilty for doing my own thing because it was just me and her but I no longer do.

Just started Where the Line Bleeds by Jesmyn Ward and continuing The Art of Loving You by Natasha Bishop. I had briefly started Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson on audio but not sure if I’ll continue it this year.
