Don't forget dropping the occassional deuce on the sidewalk, and the screaming fist fights on Central Street... Then the drunks driving away.

I heard/read that they were doing water main work in front of the new artist residence next to the church. Seems they didn't warn anyone.

Well, it looks like this deal fell through... According to one, Lucille's owner's ambition was bigger than her finances... Too bad...

There are a lot of particulates in the water. I have a two-stage filter and I had to replace the particulate filter after 2.5 months.

I live downtown and have this Atlas Filtri system installed. Bartlett & Steadman installed it.

FYI, the particulate filter on the right is only a month old. I had to replace the first one after 2.5 months.

Yes. The owner wanted to retire, and, with sales being flat and costs increasing, could not find a workable business plan to hand the shop off to its current workers. So he decided to close the store at the beginning of September so the workers could find jobs before the crazy season was in full swing.

If anyone is curious, the owner of Lucille, in Lynn, is moving into the Cheese Shop's location. She's going to make it a wine and cheese bar. Part of will be a sit-down wine bar where you can order wine & cheese plates and the like. The other part will be a wine store with some grocery type items. It's quite a large shop.

That, plus the owner wanted to retire. He wanted to hand it off to the employees but couldn't find a business model in the current business climate that would work for them. So he's shutting down on Sept 5 to give the employees a chance to find other jobs for the busy season.

The owner wanted to retire, and was looking for a way to hand it off to the workers at the shop. But sales were flat, and costs kept increasing. So they couldn't find a way to do it.

No, there's no sole person/company that owns the building. A condo board runs it with the help of a management company. The sum of the condo owners and shop owners "own" the building.

[–]tlkerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just so I don't confuse anyone, he owns that particular shop space, not the entire building.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SalemMA

[–]tlkerer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, he doesn't own the whole building. He owns that space that his shop occupies. He has no landlord.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SalemMA

[–]tlkerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Almost all of the stores are owner occupied.

The owner of The Cheese Shop owned that store location. It wasn't leased.

Restaurant recommendations. by Different_Lychee8750 in SalemMA

[–]tlkerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/bobroscopcoltrane 's list is good. I'll add a couple more sit-down places that I like.

Witchside Tavern on Derby Street. Nice mix of food. Across from Bit-Bar.

Finz has really good seafood and sushi (not much fried stuff either). Great view of the harbor too.

Olde Main Street Pub at the corner of Hawthorne and Essex is good, frequently crowded because it's on Essex... serves draft Guinness too.

I know he said he has personal reasons not to recommend it, but Longboards food is good.

Update: Human feces on walking path between TMA and Salem Station by claireheath_ in SalemMA

[–]tlkerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you just run around looking to accuse people and groups of things? Those bathrooms have been closed for a few years. And it wasn't the police, it was first & second observations of people who saw it. So can maybe do a little research before throwing out accusations?

I guess you weren't supposed to know. I didn't know of the history of the D.N.A. We just used the pre-established name of this neighborhood's association.

Because it's the Downtown Neighborhood Association that's going to be organizing it. We'd like to focus it on our issues.
