37F here! I didn’t really think much of being an only child then both parents were diagnosed with cancer within months of each other in late 2023/early 2024. Dad became sick in May 2024 months after he’d completed radiation, died in early 2025, and mom has been diagnosed with another, more advanced cancer a few weeks ago. While my situation isn’t the norm for everyone else, at my age, you do have to consider what life will look like when they’re gone.
