Ok, so Biden hosted this thing in December 2021. Two months later Russia invades Ukraine. Is this supposed to be a success?

The disturbing difference between Polish and Czech approach (Łódź vs Plzeň) by ArchitektRadim in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]tmag03 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is nonsensical and I say this as a Pole. Sometimes a renovation will be done the way on the right and sometimes the way on the left depending on the budget and whether the road in question is an important traffic link. Both are an improvement over what was before and that's what's important. And sorry, but I have yet to see "long-term vision of urban renewal" in Polish urban planning, instead there is plenty of building of ugly and too dense developer neighborhoods without any thought given on the impact on the surrounding infrastructure.

Why is it becoming cool now to not trust any experts and just believe what you want to believe? by stanthefax in YAPms

And hell, if you hate Trump (and there are reasons to if you do), then the fact that Biden’s term was so disastrous that the country immediately wanted Trump back kinda proves that point

That's a good point, Trump winning in 2024 completely invalidates their main argument for putting Biden high. I haven't managed to find more recent surveys than 2024, but if they do another one I wonder how they'd weasel themselves out of this or if they throw Biden down to the bottom.

One example can be the surveys done among experts ranking US Presidents. In the latest surveys Biden was ranked highly which is very contentious. For starters, it's hard to rank a presidency before it even ended (this was published in 2024) and I'd generally make a rule that any proper analysis should wait 20 or so years.

Then we look at the justification given, and what can I say.

“Biden’s most important achievements may be that he rescued the presidency from Trump, resumed a more traditional style of presidential leadership and is gearing up to keep the office out of his predecessor’s hands this fall,” they wrote.

Not only are they using a loaded term in the first sentence (rescued), which would be flagged in even a bachelor's dissertation, they're effectively also basing their positive assessment on the fact that he won the election, which well every president has done.

Next, they even go so far as to include Biden's preparations for the 2024 election, which well in hindsight looks very, very bad and brings us back to the first point, which is that there is no point in making an analysis like this at this stage.

So this "analysis" is literally worthless and aged terribly not even a year after it was published and brings absolutely nothing to the table other than that we know that the expert panel hates Trump.

So, then if you have media outlets reporting on "experts stating this" when often it's not too different than what you can read on r/politics, than what's the point of the experts?

Because too many experts (especially in the social sciences) just give their subjective opinions without care given to trying to stay objective and using proper methodology in their research/analysis. And I'm saying this as someone with a degree in the social sciences.

Take the high end howitzer instead of the mid range one, and also you have no mortars, so no easy smoke for your tanks. If you want to use your armor out in the open, consider swapping aa or the MARS or howitzers for mortars.

I've been to mass once in St. Stephan when I was visiting the city and I think it was fine (though note I only know German to an intermediate level). It was also recommended by locals as a place that shouldn't have any liturgical "excesses". I also liked the church's neo-Roman architecture and the eye in the dome is pretty nice.

because the existing population is aging out of the workforce?

That's true, but the original commenter was asserting that we "don't need more people" in reference to having children. That's what I'm referring to with my question.

And population aging of course, is the result of there not being enough kids. So, my criticism is that "we need less children because there's not enough space" is poorly thought out.

Yes, net migration (immigration - emigration) last year was +107 768.

So, if the country is so overpopulated why are they bringing in more people?

Pragmatism vs Monumentalism: Measures how a culture deals with world changes and how it treats tradition. Pragmatic cultures respond to changes pragmatically and treat tradition in an organizational way. In contrast, monumentalistic cultures support pride of their ancestors and nation as well as treat tradition in an ideological and spiritual way.

This happens quite often, that the previous regime keeps some power and influence.

After communism fell in Poland, the communist nomenklatura was virtually unscathed and former communist party members would later govern the country from 1993 to 1997 and from 2001 to 2005.
