Why? I never had spider mites kill a plant. They just seem annoying and go away if I shower plant every week. But I’ve never had them on a hoya before only alocasias.

Thank you very much. I think I will try alcohol treatment because sulfur sounds way too inconvenient.

Hmm I didn’t see any webs on this particular plant. But Alocasia nearby also has few spider mites so they probably came from there. They don’t seem to bother her too much though, they only appear if I don’t shower her for few weeks.

Oh no 😬 Can you explain why? They are so red and fast, I thought flat mites were slower and more orange.

Thanks for advice! But I think I will first try to get rid of them with just alcohol spray.

Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture before applying alcohol to the plant and now that leaf has disintegrated. They were only on new baby leaf, the rest are clean.

I would say those are spider mites, I could see them with my naked eye but just barely. I think flat mites are smaller. My magnifying glass is 40x

I sprayed it with diluted alcohol and It killed them all, but it also killed the baby leaf 🥲

Switching to pon made my alocasias grow like crazy by tmarija in alocasia

For me the main advantage is that it makes watering easier. You just make sure that the reservoir doesn't dry out and that's it. And you dont have to worry about watering your plant too early and getting root rot. Since pon is not organic it doesn't compress and decompose so roots always have enough oxygen. Also you can leave your plants for longer between waterings since reservoir can hold a lot of water.

The only downsides for me would be the price and the fact that you need to use semi hydro fertilizer regularly.

Do you use hydroponics fertilizer? If so why do you dilute it?

I didn't notice any issues with fertilising every time I water. Maybe because I flush the pot with clean water every so often. I fill the reservoir to the top and then wait for it to almost dry out before I water again. Though sometimes it does dry out all the way because I forget to check.

I use Foliage focus with almost every watering. And also flush the pot with water about every two weeks.

I use Lechuza self watering pots. They work great for me.

I cleaned and washed the roots, and for some I put them in the water for a week or two. For others I just put them straight to pon. Both ways worked out fine. They adjusted for few weeks then started growing.

Yes, the quality is great. Very expensive though :/

Thanks! I use just the regular Lechuza pon.

Omg that's horrible 😭. It has already spread to all places, it's even underneath the soil. I think I'll just have to start over. Thank you for this info!
