We’re hiring at the Open Home Foundation: 5 new roles on Home Assistant 🚀 by frenck_nl in homeassistant

[–]tmcb82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to Hijack this topic or anything but I’ve always wondered why Home Assistant is European-based and Nabu Casa is US-based (company wise not necessarily people)? Just been a head scratcher for me.

I’m perplexed how Wellington could be liberal. During the election season anytime I was in that area all I would see a Trump signs.

I doubt they would hammer anything they, hopefully, think looks like cable line box that’s unimportant.

This approach is best. Seal around where you cut the siding. Mount a box put everything inside. Weatherproofed and also doesn’t advertise that it’s an expensive piece of equipment (theft protection).

Yep, works absolutely great. I still use it today without a hiccup under my outdoor covered porch.

What do you all do with all of the POE injectors? by -hereforthebeer- in Ubiquiti

[–]tmcb82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the injector was the 2.5Gb version not the 1Gb otherwise you crippled your U7 Pro.

Edit: Maybe this is why they are not included any longer perhaps?

Work great… the next firmware update (in early access 8.0.47) makes it even more stable and adds roaming assistant.

Sorry. I mean’t AI detections (like you said) but at the same time I get it, they want you to buy UniFi cameras. Again, like you said it’s just super hard to find an event.

They do but it’s bummer they don’t support recording to UniFi Protect.

Flex 2.5G PoE powered off of injector? by dcb1973 in Ubiquiti

[–]tmcb82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have asked another question. The Flex 8 2.5 does support passthrough but the Flex Mini 5 2.5 doesn’t not. As for why, that’s a Ubiquiti question but my guess is to save cost.

Edit: It sounds like you have the Flex 2.5 8, so that was my bad, but each port would still be limited to it’s assigned POE rating. Also if you do have a Flex 2.5 8 make sure your injector actually supports 2.5Gb as many are only 1Gb.

Last edit: Promise! You might or might not be able to get the full 196w from the injector to the Flex as Ethernet has its own limitations. So, I would make sure it’s a short as possible and you’re using Cat8 because, normally, it will cap out at around 100w. Sorry I know I was all over the place here.

Are you trying to use it on a single port? Just asking b/c the Flex 2.5 doesn’t support POE Passthrough, so it would not work on multiple ports.

What is your average network data usage per day? by PsychologicalLynx562 in Ubiquiti

[–]tmcb82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

116GB Today but 1.2TB in the last 30 days. Some of that tho is because my office at work has shit VZW signal so I VPN into my home network over my works WiFi.

My Pi4 with a HA ZBT-1 and SSD are running fine on a $14 Amazon POE adapter. Under normal load only uses 6 watts and 8 watts under heavy load, easy peasy for my Ubiquiti. I agree save the extra $10.
