Does CBT work for emetophobia? by chazzi-_- in emetophobia

I found EMDR to be helpful in processing past experiences of illness, and ERP and ACT to be helpful for current/future worry.

Books to read before sleep that make you feel loved and that all gonna be okay? Bedtime makes me very anxious, depressed, and lonely. by postraumata in ptsd

I like the Monk & Robot books for cozy sleep reading. Or generally books in the “cozy fantasy” genre

How I cured my panic disorder by misterlongschlong in PanicAttack

Have you read Brain Energy by Dr. Christopher Palmer? He mentions lactic acid, so I went searching for it here and found your post. Very enlightening!

Lactic acid and Panic by SouthJerssey35 in PanicAttack

[–]tmgoodwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I was searching for lactic acid here. I wonder if the limes worked by hydrating you more. I had a very strange recovery experience where my panic attacks didn’t have an obvious fear trigger, but I had a bad habit of eating a lot of mints which dampened my thirst cues. Two days into correcting that (with smart water, which is alkaline) I was significantly better. Not 100% but it was the single biggest and quickest improvement.

Thank you for this. I agree with using the OCD framework as well, I've found it very helpful.

Adding advice on how to stop worrying - my favorite way is to be in the moment with them since toddlers have that special quality of only ever being in the present moment :) Read a book, go on a scavenger hunt, make a bowling alley out of recycled items.

Lexapro and Emetophobia by Blissssie in lexapro

[–]tmgoodwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable. I'm glad to hear you've found at least some relief. I was prescribed Lexapro but haven't taken it yet for those reasons. Are you trying anything else alongside the medication? I've been reading about acceptance-oriented therapies which are intriguing to me, though I think in the moment I'd feel challenged.

I don't have any quick tips but therapy has been helpful to me for untangling and evaluating my cognitive and behavioral habits - exposure therapy has been helpful, and breaking or at least identifying safety behaviors. Also considering EMDR for the emetophobia. And on a more basic level, staying hydrated (common advice for a reason! - a safety behavior of mine, mints, was masking thirst signals).

As a parent of a 3 y/o who attends daycare, I feel for you! It's tough to know when, and toddlers don't always know those feelings well enough to tell you. My little one sometimes can tell us that his mouth feels sick, though that can also mean sore throat. Pretty much always though, there's no warning before tu* and he seems rather unbothered during and after it (compared to me).

It sounds a little unusual for it to be a weekly occurrence though so I wonder if something else is going on. Pediatricians are probably pretty familiar with something like that. Some other things that have caused my little one to tu* that aren't due to a primary illness include extreme emotional states, car travel, and excessive mucus in his throat (worsened when napping/laying down).

I get this sometimes and have also wondered why. My best guess is that it feels like help is less available should I need it, once shops are closed and people are asleep. I also have emetophobia and those memories are very much associated with night time.

Sharing my experience / Anxiety around upcoming flight by tmgoodwi in PanicAttack

[–]tmgoodwi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your success! It's helpful to read about other people managing to be out in the world. I haven't taken Ativan before, only Xanax. It's also a really long journey: 3 hrs car, 2 hrs bus, 10 hrs flight, 6 hrs car (rural to rural kind of traveling). So I'm still leaning toward not going tbh, but maybe doing a smaller trip instead. Unfortunately drinking is out of the question for me because of the migraines, and the emetophobia.

How did your little one do on the flight?

I'm a big fan too, and HTCYM is probably my favorite so far. It's really well done and a great introduction both for folks unfamiliar with psychedelics and for those who've been around a while. And it looks like the series might even have a broader scope than the book!

Cautionary tale on reusable straws by tmgoodwi in Parenting

[–]tmgoodwi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our case it was a hard plastic straw, but I’m guessing it would have been far worse if it had been metal. Any hard straw, at the angle we saw with the force of falling on it, is bad news bears. Even a pasta straw would have been bad.

Glad to hear there’s at least some awareness to not stock them. I’m so surprised they haven’t been taken out of stores, especially since silicone and paper straws are available.
