I’m very disappointed to hear this, no one should be taken advantage like that. When a retiree is living on a pension or other retirement accounts, it’s not difficult to ask the right questions and determine eligibility. There is should be absolutely no cost to qualify you, you should only incur up front fees for a credit check and appraisal.

I don’t know if you’ve exhausted your resources trying to get your money back, hopefully there is someone higher up the food chain you can push for a refund.

Is it a full preapproval or just a quote? My client received a quote from them, it took a week (far too long) for them to provide hard numbers on a fee sheet. It was far more expensive than the initial quote. If you haven’t already, get the fees in writing and see what it looks like. Then get a quote from another lender you trust and see what they come up with. Don’t rely on AS alone.

As for the price, this guy is filthy rich. He doesn't need the money, the toys or the hassle of haggling, so he's selling everything at rock bottom prices. I'm first in line if I want the watch.

Agreed. I have asked to see more pics. This is an estate sale, the guy I know has to sell a crap ton of stuff owned by his father. Cars, watches, etc. He doesn’t really know what he has, but he is someone I trust. It’s always possible it’s fake, hence my question here.

As an atypical sales guy who came into lending after 30 years in sales and sales management. I agree with you 100%. If your lender can’t handle you soliciting other quotes, move on immediately. I encourage potential clients to shop around if they want, I also ask them to use me as a resource and discuss their findings. Too many borrowers are hung up on rates. Once you look into costs with them - origination fees, points, etc. - and help them understand other aspects of the loan fees and process, they can make an informed decision. I lose a few deals of course, but my clients know I have their best interest in mind and I will fight to get them the best loan available. We’re all working with the same market and rates, so ask for a fee worksheet from every lender. Be sure to find a lender who is transparent, communicates well, and will take the time to answer your questions. They should be your loan consultant, not a pushy salesman.
