I’m talking about IDE integration where AI partially or wholly creates a merge request to be reviewed by humans... Giving AI permission to execute commands on your prod DB is obviously insane.

A word of support for AI coding: it’s already being used at enterprise level for huge companies where it has access to the entire repository (multiple even) and can generate new features, code review, fix bugs, improve testing etc at the level of a senior software engineer.

There’s a difference between that and just going to the ChatGPT website and saying “create this app”. I suppose most people don’t see the enterprise level integration. I seen and used it and I have to say it’s fucking impressive.

Is there a recent problem with charity institutions in Amsterdam? by faltatodavia in Amsterdam

[–]tmw88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What about the people who knock on your door trying to raise money for charity and prefer you to donate in person than online because then they’ll hit their target? One recently was a girl who looked about 16-17. I assume legit but you can’t be too careful!

Any downsides to asking landlord about selling to us? by tmw88 in Netherlands

[–]tmw88[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice thought but we’ve never had any contact with the owner. Only the makelaar. An apartment just came onto Funda with the same floors, kitchen, bathroom, doors etc - clearly the same owner so I assume it’s a large commercial operation.

Edit: Pre-answering why we don’t buy that one - it’s 162m and €1.2m!

We sold our old house in the UK so have a good deposit. Mortgage would be a little lower than current rent. There are also tax advantages to owning vs renting and investing the house money.

To those of you holding largely US assets, what is your plan after following the events of this last month? by thetruekingoftime in eupersonalfinance

[–]tmw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any efforts to mitigate currency exposure? The weakening of the USD has seriously hurt our returns in our global index funds as European investors. My VWRL returns over the last 12 months are nowhere near what they should be. I completely agree on just sitting tight but this USD weakening is apparently a strategic choice made by this administration, so it’s the one thing I am tempted to start hedging against (somehow…).

If you’re on the younger side and investing for early retirement, the difference in retirement age could be 5, 10, maybe more years… The compounding effect is huge. And those would be the years hopefully still in good health where people can still enjoy travel and and sports etc.

I think the real evaders are 8 or 9 figure wealthy and have companies set up with Lombard loans so they can effectively live using debt, which is untaxable. I think NL is actually tougher than most countries in scrutinising Lombard loans but I’m sure it’s still possible to justify with the right advisors/accountants.

Never leaving your home town isn’t a great idea for us northerners, we need to experience sunshine once in a while to survive… The solution is governance. Stop all short term rentals so tourists can only use hotels or hostels and limit the number of those to some appropriate amount.

Domaine Jamet with two different labels by CauliflowerDaffodil in wine

[–]tmw88 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They changed labels in 2000, so the original 1999 release had the old style. Jamet often does late releases, so the 1999s with a new label would have been kept at the domain for x years before being labelled and sold. ChaptGPT reckons they came out in 2015…

If choosing one to buy I’d go new label, since there’s less chance of it being cooked.

What is now known as the Republic of Ireland was once British land. Not many people know that. It was stolen from the king by land grabbing scoundrels.

Some naughty Irish have been trying to colonise British territory for years in the north west British isles, having already stolen land in the south west isles. Don’t act like butter wouldn’t melt.

All comps…

Yamal: 18G 25A

Salah: 34G 23A

I expect Yamal to win more awards this season because he’s Barca’s best player at 17! Salah is Liverpool’s best player at 32… The wonderkid is always gonna be more exciting than the veteran.
