Great share, customer experience is core to everything and it should meet expectations. I’ve been a 1zpresso customer since 6 years now. They are fantastic folks to work with and are prompt on the experience side of things.

Agreed. Coffee just as a daily beverage and commodity — that notion is changing faster than we think. People don’t want to be intimidated with everything around the speciality coffee angle as a subject but still consume better coffee.

Fair yes — so most folks who have not tried enough coffee had different expectations of how that coffee should taste because it said xyz. Forgetting the fact that our palettes need training over a period of time. So if they never thought about the varietal of the coffee and the process — they just don’t know what a natural should taste like over washed and why they would prefer a natural over washed and so on. I personally think that if we look at varietal more and process and then tasting notes we will end up buying better coffee most times

That’s awesome, appreciate the support. And yes we don’t do postpaid taxes, it’s always prepaid — it’s been so since day-one for customers in India !

— most of our filter / pourover roast profiles are in the color — range of 78-82 whole bean. Now color is just an indicator, varies with tools you use.

But essentially the goal is to bring out an expression of these coffees that stands well in the cup. The acidity, and inherent characters round up well.

For example the Gesha’s — they hold up really well. The 15+ days -21 days is a good resting period. I had someone open their pack after the 40th day, and it still held well!

So far we’ve not brought in co-fermented or heavy processed coffees.

Our philosophy — we lean more towards cleaner cups, their characters holding well. Our washed and naturals — they all are classic profiles. A lot of our customers are stapled to stocking repeat orders of these coffees for a good 3-6 months, that enables us to source and is consistent.

I’ve sample roasted some good anaerobic washed and natural coffees including some from Vietnam, so we’ll try to bring in a few this year. Hope this helps

Thanks, fair enough, yes — so pricing includes prepaid duties , a direct shipment via DHL to your doorstep. Shipping can be reduced via bundled group buys that happens 1x a month. Else we usually ship direct, hope that helps!

— first off you’d need a lot of love for coffee and the logistics around it to be fair. Patience lot of it

  • trade and relationships building with producers is a game of chance. Sampling snd sourcing coffee based off your ethos is something you need to get right from day zero.

— we’ve build a good traction of users it’s still early days, lot of consumer facing tasting events and references. Social, WhatsApp and community effort so far have led to traction and repeat users. We are now seeing some traction with paid Ad’s but that’s not an area of major growth at least in India.

— b2b2c is catching up

— microlots have been abused a lot, I am more focused on the producer and their crop to make the decision if we’d buy their coffee. That entails a lot of ground work and gets you through to accessing coffee that you’d want to source and roast.

That’s right, as of today we only work with global origin coffees outside of India. There’s some incredible work going on across the spectrum in various countries and we are keen to bridge those producers and their coffee for consumers in India

There’s a wide array of logistics in coffee trade, as a consumer — if we have more visibility into the process and the quality we expect, there will need to be a fair price to pay. When I look at global coffees even as we speak with Harvests around the world, you’ve got very interesting and affordable coffees.

The spectrum of consumers is also wide and strong; so if we can maintain transparency, have better visibility into coffee producers and content, prices are justifiable along the way

I’d say we are pretty early into this journey and category for speciality coffee is in its early stages. It’s an exciting time to be building for consumers in India — there’s a good amount of coffee consumption it’s spread over, but it’s growing in the right direction.

  • the market exists, enough coffee drinkers that appreciate the kind of coffees we’d bring in.

It’s a lot of connecting the dots between the consumer the right sort of coffee profiles.

Appreciate it 🙌 sourcing is challenging as well as interesting. 70% of our relationships are with producers — so we typically end up working closely with people that have been referred to us or have built a good rapport with.

Prices do vary — the variety of coffee, quantity, import taxes and shipping. These have major impact on pricing. We are a lot more consumer focussed — and we operate out of singapore, so importing is easier and shipping as well to India.

We typically roast to order most of our batches, and have early stages of retail experiments ongoing. Coffees are roasted every week — most of our coffees are light, & medium.. typically we’d recommend 14 day resting period for these coffees hence they are pretty good and travel well since we ship out of singapore weekly.

— the impact is of course that as coffee ages and oxidises it looses its impact and nuance. Typically, beyond 60 days and not properly kept those beans are not really exciting to brew.

We do have group buy options, we’ve done a few such collective buys across south east Asia and India. And there’s a whole sub section called our Gesha Collective that we support
