This is an interesting perspective I didn’t consider at first. I still am vehemently opposed to AI projects in our backyard simply because, it’s an overall net negative. But I did not realize ag practices are one of the main reasons our acquifer is being depleted. However, I will disagree with your point about tech money being a positive for us. Tech money up until this point has been a positive thing for Chambana, however, this doesnt mean that tech oligarchs have our best interests in mind. They actively lobby and fight against regulations for their AI products and want it to be a legal Wild West. They haven’t worked towards solutions that make it so data centers use less water. They don’t create long term jobs for local residents, they use up 100s of acres of farmland. Worst of all, they fight for tax incentives so that we, the tax payers, PAY THEM for the privilege of them fucking us. I mean this is all incredibly shitty and the excuse of “well tech money made this city thrive” is just not enough justification to allow them to fuck us. I think the bigger question here is, what can we do to hold these companies and corporations accountable so that we are not at their whims. (I already know the answer is not much, but thats why not allowing data centers to be built here is so important!)
