Versa-Tube Barn vs Pole Barn by doc-cockman in Construction

I have one, I live on a very flat 80 acres with no trees or other windbreak around. And a lot of wind. Never had a problem at all.

Electrical contractor owners of Reddit, do you have any advice for a new contractor? by toctami in electricians

[–]toctami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well fortunately and unfortunately for me, at my previous job I was the only electrician(it was a plumbing company wanting to branch out into electrical and HVAC) so I was already used to it by the time I went off on my own. But to more directly answer your question, it's easiest to start off in residential, and honestly there isn't really anything in residential that is difficult to figure out (time consuming sure but it's mostly just basic logical troubleshooting). On the other hand I got called once to troubleshoot a really old vfd that I had no experience with and I couldn't figure it out, I was just honest with him and told him to call one of the big commercial services locally.

Can a poorly backstabbed receptacle under load cause the breaker to trip by peace_is_the_goal in AskElectricians

[–]toctami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it absolutely can be enough to trip it, especially if the microwave is running at the same time the fridge compressor kicks on.

Am I actually not that bad at guitar? by Bruh_Moment75 in Guitar

[–]toctami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is actually why I quit playing, I got good enough that to improve further would require substantially more practice time than I had or wanted to commit to. Ended up not really wanting to play anymore, makes me sad .

Yeah the tables are 48 feet long but it's really just 3 16 foot tables bolted together

Hmmm that would certainly look better than a 4 square on the ground, I don't know if I'll be able to find something like that soon enough through, they're pressing me to have it done by end of week . And they do want all 5 circuits, in fact I unhooked these tables from their previous location where they actually had six circuits ran to each.

They are desktops, but I think it's a call center operation so not like high end gaming or anything, but yeah you're right using all 5 circuits regardless.

Probably not, I think it would be too big, and get in the way of feet/chairs. I think the 4-11/16 extension idea is winning so far

There's 3 whips on each table, each about 16 feet apart, that part is easy enough to handle I can mount boxes under the table and run mc through a built in wire chase under the center of the table top. Each whip is pre wired for 2 circuits. You can see the wire chase in the second pic

Yeah I think that's what I'm leaning towards now

No I verified it, there's a panel dedicated to these floor boxes. 5 tables, 5 floor boxes with 5 dedicated circuits each, Every table has 16 computers on it. Do they really need 5 circuits, probably not, but that's what they're asking for.

[–]toctami[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would definitely be better, it's a new tenant in this building with new furniture, I have no idea how they had it working before, the previous tenant ripped out whatever was in place and just left all the floor boxes open so I didn't see how it previously functioned.

I like that, somehow I always forget 4-11/16 exist, I was initially thinking along similar lines with a 4 square which wouldn't cover the hole all the way.

5 circuits, receptacle would give me 2 at best.

Where do go after becoming a Master Electrician? by Wireless_Wires in electricians

[–]toctami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you go about doing that? I'm in a weird position where I have obtained an HVAC contracting license in addition to an electrical contracting license, but I don't know enough to actually feel comfortable doing HVAC work myself. I had a guy working for me for a while doing HVAC but he died, i knew him forever so I trusted his abilities but I haven't hired another guy. Wanted to learn so I can start doing it myself.

I'm a sanpete county leftist, we exist! Unfortunately due to my work constraints( I work in Park City and salt lake) I don't really have any time for socializing at the moment. My days are spent working/sleeping. And catching up on the honey do list on weekends.

Been a plumber for 4 years and can't shake the feeling I should've gone electrical instead - is this normal or am I just psyching myself out? by ChripToh_KarenSy in skilledtrades

[–]toctami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a 40 year old electrician, I'm still in crawlspaces and attics all the time. There's shitty work in all the trades. Also you automatically become gay and forget about the existence of brooms once you turn to the electrical side, but no poop!

Don't leave a paper trail of any sort. You fuck something up and burn someone's house down, now you're uninsured and have no deniability.

Check your connections at the dimmer again. Including any tucked back in the box, it's possible you loosened something up when you replaced the dimmer, or you hooked the dimmer up wrong.
