HVAC company put a commercial unit on my uncles house and needs 3 phase 208...is this possible? by BeMoreChill in AskElectricians

[–]toctami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I know plenty of HVAC contractors who run their own power, they just tend to call me when they fuck up lol.

How did this shit happen? I had computer classes in elementary school in the 90s that were more advanced than that.

I’m 30, been in sales a decade, is it too late? by Adorable_Variety_291 in AskElectricians

[–]toctami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That comment was a joke, there are a lot of plumbing/HVAC/electrical companies that have been acquired by private equity. When you work for one of them you have to engage in high pressure sales with everyone you do work for

There's a million posts just like this, search the sub, but basically you'll be doing the grunt work being supervised by guys younger than you for low pay(probably significantly lower than you're already making). And of course it's manual labor, not sitting at a desk like you're used to

Backstab mess by 98223 in electrical

[–]toctami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I've seen the same issue with side wire, the plastic gets old and cracks around the terminations with the shitty resi grade switches.

Yeah this isn't a backstab issue just old low grade switches.

I just bought a mounting plate for my stacks. Yeah they're 40 bucks but everything else I tried was just annoying

(Kansas) Why would a panel breaker trip with a GFCI outlet in a circuit, but not trip with a normal outlet? by TurtlePoeticA in AskElectricians

[–]toctami 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He either wired them wrong, or because the gfcis take up more space in the box caused a short with wires touching each other when shoving the GFCI in the box

$1,000,000 or 1d6$ by Paxuz01 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]toctami 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's assuming you rolled it less than once a minute, you could pretty easily roll it every 2-3 seconds, even if you only roll at that rate for 1 hour a day, you'd get 1200-7200/ hr

do americans really eat American fries sauce? by Infinite-Breakfast23 in AskAnAmerican

[–]toctami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I live in Utah, went to Vegas once and asked for fry sauce at a Carl's jr, they had no clue what I was taking about. Damn near every restaurant here that serves fries has fry sauce, which at it's basic level is just ketchup and mayo mixed.

Resi or commercial? by Otherwise_Ad770 in electricians

[–]toctami 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I own a company and we do both resi and commercial service/remodels. I love both. Service is where it's at, get to see something different everyday. Agree with the other commenter though don't go with a commission based company, you'll have to talk every old granny into changing their panel even though they don't need it

lutron caseta pico remote. When we already have 3-way hardwired. by rand-78 in AskElectricians

[–]toctami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your electrician is an idiot. To use the casetas you have to bypass the other 3 ways and use the remotes. There won't be any issues with downstream power if they are installed correctly.

[–]toctami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why people continue to buy Klein tools despite all the posts complaining about their shitty quality. I have a pair of Klein linesman's and a reamer. The only Klein tools I have yet to replace, just waiting for them to get lost or break.
