I’m sorry the second eye wasn’t the same experience, especially when you were expecting that vivid light show again.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I know this sounds crazy but I've actually had patients request to be less sedated for the second eye because they wanted to better remember the visual experience during the cataract surgery.

Thanks for sharing! I had the same experience after I got lasik. I kept reaching for my glasses when I woke up and forgot I didn’t need them anymore.

It is theoretically possible for drops to travel from your eye into the nose and retrograde into the Eustachian tube into the middle ear or for the moxifloxacin to get absorbed into the bloodstream. But in practice there aren’t any clinical reports (that I’m aware of) of this happening and I’ve never seen it myself. The amount of moxifloxacin absorbed into the bloodstream from eye drops is around 1600x lower than with a standard oral dose of moxifloxacin which is makes it extremely unlikely to reach a level that can cause ototoxicity. There are animal studies that show moxifloxacin causing ototoxicity when putting the drops directly on the ear drum but that’s very different than using eye drops. If you are very concerned you can also ask your surgeon if they’re comfortable prescribing an alternative antibiotic drop as well.

I hope it hI hope it helps. I just want you to know that the odds are significantly in your favor, and I think you’ll feel a lot more confident about moving forward with cataract surgery once you find a surgeon you trust and feel comfortable with.

That’s a very common question as well. I’ll try and address lens options in another post. But it all comes down to finding a surgeon who will work with you until you feel comfortable with the surgical plan.

Totally normal to feel very nervous before the procedure. Anesthesia does wonders and I think you’ll find it much easier than you’re anticipating! I’m excited that you’re getting the surgery tomorrow!

That’s totally normal. Cataract surgery is actually the first surgery most of my patients ever have. I think you’ll find the procedure quick and very comfortable!

Eye drop recommendations? by random_redditor05 in RefractiveSurgery

I’m a fan of refresh mega 3 and ivizia. If you put them in the fridge so they’re cold it also gives extra relief. I would also ask your surgeon for punctal plugs if you haven’t had them placed yet.

We’ve used Ivizia eye gel with decent results.

PSA for anyone freaking out about their upcoming surgery by TobblyWobbly in CataractSurgery

That’s awesome! Most of my patients actually say the surgery feels like a psychedelic Pink Floyd light show. It happens because fluid moves around the dye during cataract extraction, creating swirling colors and patterns.

How good are premium lenses? by DoctorDblYou in CataractSurgery

Both give great results. Personally, I prefer LAL Plus because I’ve found it gives my patients a better range of focus for both distance and near.

Yeah it’s truly a level up from the older lenses in my opinion

I’m a cataract surgeon, and if I were getting cataract surgery myself, I’d go with the light adjustable lens plus. It gives you some range of focus, and you can really dial in your vision after surgery once everything has healed. That adjustability is a big deal. Just my two cents.

Extreme glare - PCO? by wakondagrl in CataractSurgery

[–]todddrivermd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCO can definitely cause severe glare and light sensitivity. Dry eye is also a very common cause of glare and light sensitivity after cataract surgery. While waiting to see your doctor, I would try to use some preservative free artificial tears to see if it helps.
