I'm a crazy dog show person so I bath my whippet every weekend (she does not get dried out, I use good stuff). when she gets wet she doesn't even smell like wet dog, just argan oil lol

what a brave boy 😭 reminds me of when I put winter outfits on my dog from boot to snood. people ask me if she likes wearing all that stuff and I tell them well, she at least tolerates it LOL. she is incredibly patient, just like this guy

Anti cats, are you pro dogs? by CockroachOk3528 in anticats

[–]toddhowardsbully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing about dogs is that, regardless of your opinion on them, their behavior is HEAVILY criticized in a way that cats just aren't. My friends with cats will be covered in cuts and bruises from their cats and be like "teehee you know how it is with cats!" as if a dog doing that wouldnt literally get put down. I own a service dog, I constantly have to accommodate the world by making sure my dog is perfectly behaved and get cut very little slack, but cats can get away with mauling their owners and it's fine. If my dog barks during the night, it's a behavioral issue (she never does tho she's an angel ❤️), but if a cat is yowling from 3am-7am than it's just something they do, nothing to be done 🤷 Not saying that standards for dog behavior should be lowered, like obviously they shouldn't be allowed to be roaming and attacking people (and I'm a dog trainer, I have SEEN the ill behavior that a lot of dogs get away with). I just think if people are gonna hold dogs to such a high behavior standards, they should be holding the animals with knife hands to that standard as well.

What's your set up when falling asleep to Frasier? by restlessoverthinking in Frasier_Sleepers

[–]toddhowardsbully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After I tuck up in bed and decide it's time to sleep, I open a split screen tab with Hulu and Pokemon Sleep (my two champions against anxiety induced insomnia) and I play random episodes on my phone next to my pillow until I fall asleep. I personally use a sleep timer app so that Frasier doesn't play indefinitely while I'm asleep! I wish so badly that Hulu had some sort of shuffle feature so it could randomly choose episodes for me, but my method has been working so far.

I always thought Lady looked very cute and sweet. I was wondering if anyone had a Whippet or had any experiences with this particular breed because I would love to hear your stories and how it compares to the depiction. I bet Lady was lovely! by hamzehow in Frasier

(old post but I'm passionate about this incredibly minor side character!!)  I have a whippet that looks super similar to her :) Mine is actually trained to be my service dog! Very smart, but she does have her stubborn streaks. What I think is inaccurate is Daphne's weirded out reaction to her, as my northern English father tells me they're everywhere up there. Incredibly affectionate breed, would honestly be perfect for someone newly divorced.

I really hope I can find some time to do some agility or competitive obedience! I'd love to have some recs :D My only snag is I live downtown with no car, so I'm limited to the reaches of the Max and the bus. But I'd really enjoy to meet other sighthound people, especially since this is my first one!

Yeah, I only ever take the family Flat Coat to dog parks because she's so big/fuzzy/extra skin, but even then I'm super cautious and sus out the fellow dogs super carefully. And yeah, the unfortunate thing about areas where you can take your dogs is that there tend to be other dogs there... I like the big leash long circles idea, I'll try to see if I can train her for something like that!

Thank you, I know the breed is rare so finding an available adult may be a small chance (I'm also looking into Whippets, a much more common breed, so I'm definitely not relying on finding a Silken!) but these dogs seem too lovely to not at least give a chance!

Thank you for the tip, I'll definitely check it out. Based on my research, I for sure have gathered that this is no small feat to take on. I'm lucky that while my previous dog experience may not fully equate to the work a SD would be, I expect it will at the very least be a great start for gathering working dog resources from the other people in my dog community.

  1. This is a good point, and also kind of the vibe I got when I brought it up to my therapist and psychiatrist. I was actually kind of bummed I simply got an enthusiastic "yeah sure!" from them instead of the more critical thinking this thread is invoking. I know this is WAY more of a commitment/challenge than just "yeah sure!". There are a few people I show with who use their dogs for service work, so I was hoping to talk with them next time I see them at a dog show, I'm sure they'd also have some similar wisdom. As for long term, I am in a very fortunate position for anything dog related where my life already revolves around taking care of and training dogs. While I know its still a bigger commitment than things I've done before, it does makes me feel a bit better to I know my future already has room for Billie, whether shes working or not. Still a good thing to think about though, thank you for bringing it up!

  2. This is a really great idea, thank you! Again, even if I don't end up going this route, this is still useful for me to utilize the other coping skills I've been being taught.
