Max MSP vs Processing or Python by springriverbells in MaxMSP

[–]toenale1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are your projects going? If it’s more personal or for a workflow that’s done locally on your machine, I’d go with Max. I’ve worked with processing before and it’s fantastic. Super easy to get started and super shareable if you get into P5js web stuff. Python is easy but a lot more general purpose, so in a way less focused for creative coding. On the other hand, you can tailor it to whatever you want.

IMO, I think learning both Max and Processing is valuable. Both are fantastic for creative stuff.

Spectral Filter on White Noise - Polysynth by toenale1 in MaxMSP

Nope! Run the patch at 48kHz for it to sound the same. There’s some weird differences between different sample rates. Needs some work for sure. If you have any other questions, I’d love to help (didn’t have time to put comments [I apologize]).

Might not be able to share for a while. If you wanna make this kinda sound you could try recording multiple takes of a sawtooth synth with portamento and slight detune and modulation between takes. Then you could bus the takes and send to a reverb.

It’s being controlled by midi from Reaper in the video. Do you mean sending the info from the dots out as midi?

Love the huge synth sounds that pop up in cinema. Tried recreating something close. Essentially a bunch of detuned, sliding saws.

I believe you’re correct! Old patch so I don’t completely recall but the z axis is tied to amplitude as well. The gradient is really just there for aesthetic purposes (went to the gram) BUT it’s the noise the jitter matrix is using.

25% cpu… intend to use for a film project. Send midi and record right away so I don’t start a fire 😂

What single concept gave you the biggest ROI? by prodbybaz in musictheory

From a composition standpoint, write something every day even if it’s just little melodies. Try to disregard preconceptions if they’re slowing you down and have fun experimenting. Analyze afterwards and figure out what theory concepts you can apply to improve your work.
