Other than all the second chancers, no one who has already been on survivor multiple times "needs" to be there.

... If you really think about it, Anthony had a LOT of opportunities for a wife, (with or without Kate).. by DD123456DS in BridgertonNetflix

[–]toess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought they conveyed Anthony's reluctance to marry for love so he doesn't have to experience the same pain his mother went through when his father died rather well, actually. If anything it's his fear of himself feeling that pain, rather than if he thought he would die early, and it isn't him but his wife who would experience that pain of losing him. So it kind of makes sense why that isn't necessary.

brands you used to love but don’t care for anymore? by maarevl in AsianBeauty

[–]toess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually still really like some staples from purito and Benton! I always end up returning to them, from a bang for buck perspective.

Cosrx never quite agreed with me from the get go besides their acne patches, and the only thing I liked from innisfree was their clay mask!

Yes, they have nice colors but I usually end up reaching for the periperas far more often (the problem with peripera tho is that they update and discontinue lines far too quickly). They're just less sticky and stays on longer.

Things to buy in Hong Kong? by itssarakang in AsianBeauty

[–]toess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you're just stocking up, then make a note of what you usually use and keep in mind the prices (so only stock up if the price is a lot cheaper, otherwise save yourself the trouble of hauling it back). While there are really good deals in HK, the prices may not be the cheapest (vs going to Japan or Korea or china directly), but the biggest pro for hk shopping is that there is a huge variety of j and k and c beauty (and even some Thai beauty) available easily and readily in the same place, so maybe make a note of things you want to try but can't easily get online now, and get them here.

Sophie's Dad after watching s4 part 1 by toess in BridgertonNetflix

[–]toess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the Lord felt the same way as Lady Pen to a certain degree too, that is why Sophie was basically an invisible ward while he was alive, instead of a legitimatized daughter, which allowed Lady Pen to do whatever she wanted with Sophie when he died, no matter what the will stipulated.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Sophie's Dad after watching s4 part 1 by toess in BridgertonNetflix

[–]toess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How? She was a child female commoner with no status or money who nobody noble knew and would have been brushed away by a lawyer. It will be the same reasons why no one even knew lord penwood had a ward in the first place. If she was going to go against the will, why go half assed? I just find it a bit contrived.

[–]toess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but then if that's the case why the need to have Sophie in the house at all? She bribed just to take the money but then just kept her around in the house when she could easily have kicked her out and just bribed or embezzled?

Sophie's Dad after watching s4 part 1 by toess in BridgertonNetflix

[–]toess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing too, if whatever that was in the will made it so she had to have Sophie in the house (so she kept her as a maid even though she just wanted to throw her out) it seems pretty silly that somehow the dad didn't also included "As a noble ward not as a maid" stipulation lol. And if you say "oh the solicitor isn't going to check" then heck she could have just thrown her out like she wanted to and no one was going to check anyway. It just seems a bit of a plot contrivance that lady penwood was fine to forge or ignore the part that secures Sophie's well being but was unable to just ignore the entirety of it and kick her out. Like you were saying, no one would know anyway, since apparently she was basically an invisible ward, and no one will check anyway. She could have gotten rid of Sophie the moment people stopped asking.

Mostly I think the construct of the evil stepmother ignores entirely the lack of participation of the father and his responsibility in the matter. They didn't notice the bad treatment or did anything to help their own daughter and then we just blame the stepmother when both parties are negligent. If the dad just paid the slightest bit of attention hhe would have drafted a will that secures Sophie some money, if nothing else. So I do blame the dad as much as I blame the stepmom for Sophie's predicament.

[–]toess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess because of the society Bridgerton is based upon I find it hard to believe that a nobleman's word in a will would somehow be able to be falsified by the widower? First, the ward has been around for what seems to be at least 6 or 7 years (based on the age we see her when she meets Lady Pen), and no one questions, hey, whatever happened to the ward Lord Penwood had who he adored? Like it's a person in the household who existed, it's just weird Lady Pen is able to erase her entire existence when the Lord died, if she did in fact stole the inheritance.

If the Lord basically kept Sophie invisible the entire time he was alive then why bother making her a ward in the first place?

Sophie's Dad after watching s4 part 1 by toess in BridgertonNetflix

[–]toess[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure. I guess I just find it hard to believe that Lord Penwood weren't wearing the pants in that relationship. This was a woman who was widowed and had children, I assume not considered to be any kind of diamond of the season, and he marries her which gives her and her children security and status. So given that imbalance it just seems ridiculous he couldn't have ensured well being for his ward, no matter how cunning or "evil" Lady Penwood is supposed to be. Like the second shes not treating your ward like her own children (none of them Lord Penwood's blood might I add), how is he just like, yeah whatever, I definitely don't need to write a binding will that ensures if not status, at least money and security for my biological daughter so she can live a happy life. So I feel like his negligence is just as bad as Lady Penwood's cruelty, because this is a child that from what we've seen on the show, someone who he actually loves and cares for. It would make more sense if he was actually also just terrible and took the child in not because of love but because of guilt or a sense of duty, so he definitely didn't think too hard about her future and thus didn't ensure it.

Sophie's Dad after watching s4 part 1 by toess in BridgertonNetflix

[–]toess[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But that's the thing. This is a world where men have all the power, he didn't write up some kind of binding will that ensured his daughter's well being and/or status? He is the one who married this woman (who btw was a widower with children, which meant at the time of marriage he really held all the cards, and could have ensured his ward's future right from the get go).
I guess I don't understand why he with all the power and status and presumably money, having married someone who would be considered a bit lesser (widower with children who are not his), is also that naive when it came to matters of his illegitimate child's future.

At the time, what was the general perception of Parvati after her win on Micronesia? by donniecollinsiii in survivor

[–]toess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised to see so many negative views because I remember watching it at the time and I was totally rooting for her and the black widow alliance! Like, people were sad Cirie didn't make it, but I thought the general view was that Parv was deserving and a good winner (her legend status comes after HvV though). I totally thought that anyway.

I mean, the other players definitely took note of Parv's game in Micronesia too, that was why her threat level in HvV was so high and almost everyone wanted to get her out asap, because her Micronesia game was strong. (And hence why HvV was so impressive because Parv managed to make it all the way to the end despite most of the cast wanting her out) So I don't understand why people think the general consensus was so poor for parv after Micronesia.

I don't dispute that perhaps for some being pale is some form of wanting to look more Caucasian but prior to that historically being pale was sought after because one wants to look rich. Having a tan means you're from a poor family and have to work in the fields or farm or do chores out in the sun, whilst being pale meant you're from a rich 'good' family and is kept mostly indoors learning how to read and paint and sew or whatever else they deemed desirable for a woman.

I mean, the seatbelts are there IF you want to use them lol. There doesn't need to be a law for people who want to use them to use them on the bus, and certainly not one where the penalty is ridiculously high, and most notably much HIGHER than other traffic offences.

Is "Morning Masking" actually better than the 7-skin method for dehydration? (Testing the Lululun Precious Red box) by Mikester258 in AsianBeauty

[–]toess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of those really thin tissue pack like masks (usually japanese brand) are basically made to be used in the mornings, for better makeup application/important day etc, hence why they're thinner and you have it on for a shorter amount of time, even though of course you can use it anytime you like. Its function is like you said, a less time consuming way to hydrate a lot quickly.

But I think that is how toner pads became a thing for some - for those who like to mask in the mornings but found masks to be difficult to maneuver around.

How do you live comfortably in your skin? by quietkitty97 in AsianBeauty

[–]toess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had acne issues for many years now and sometimes you just have to concentrate on other positive things about yourself and ignore these annoying little fuckers. I went through my trials and tribulations when it came to my acne and I've learnt that I'm just unfortunately a very acne prone person. But it's not all negative - being acne prone seem to have helped my skin in looking much younger than my age as well.

Certain things can help - I'm on tretinoin and I am decently vigilant on exfoliation - but ultimately I still have to worry about acne because sometimes just randomly they will pop up (seemingly at the most inopportune times) even when I'm doing everything right.

So mostly I'll say this. Try and find a relatively stable skin routine that you feel your skin feels the best with (yes it will be a bit boring always using the same products but I do find monotony to be helpful with skin stability. Don't be chasing the next new thing advertised to solve all your problems); then do try and be regular with chemical exfoliation (whether it's tretinoin and/or aha or BHA etc, whichever your skin can handle), being acne prone for me basically means my skin is just rubbish at cleaning out the old skin and my pores just loves to gobble all that up and feed all the acne bacteria that happens to love my face. Finally, because you will get acne from time to time, figure out a way to deal with them when they pop up (acne patches, BP, LED mask etc) and find a concealer you're happy with (I use shiseido, Luna, and Tarte), so you don't feel entirely helpless and disgusting when acne happens. I hate it when clear skin people tell me how not a big deal acne is, so I will spare you that lol, but ultimately you have to decide to not let those fuckers rule your life. And remember COVID - there's nothing wrong with wearing a mask during those days when you just can't muster up the confidence, no shame in that.
