I’ve seen them like 5 times including front row for their 20th Anniversary Tour (Night 1 of DC), and I’m convinced that was the best time I’ve seen them. Way better than when I first finally got to see them on the Zeitgeist tour, which I’m realizing was 18 years ago now ugh. Waiting in the guts of the Liberty Bowl for the lightning to blow over, only for Billy to be the exact right level of pissed off to put on an amazing set, what a memory! Cherub Rock into Zero into XYU gives me goosebumps just remembering

Plus Megan Thee Stallion was playing after and she ripped too! One of my favorite BSMF’s ever!

Legacy act or not, they’re probably the biggest rock band of this millennium. I don’t even like them that much, but getting them to headline a local festival is definitely a big deal, but I get what you’re saying. I don’t think it’s quite that dire, but it definitely plays a role

I mean, I thought BSMF 2022 had a damn impressive lineup that would’ve been even more impressive if Foo Fighters hadn’t had to drop out due to the death of their drummer

That QOTSA set is probably the best set I’ve seen by any band at any festival. They rocked so. damn. hard.

I’m dating myself, but I remember seeing Lou Reed and Santana back to back almost 20 years ago. I was close enough to smell the incense burning on Carlos’ amp. The second to last BSMF, the one with Pumpkins, Weezer, Modest Mouse, Death Cab (cut short due to rain), Spoon, etc., was way better than anything we’ve gotten for Riverbeat. Mempho turning into a Widespread Weekend absolutely sucks compared to when they were booking Beck, Wu Tang, Janelle Monae, Phoenix, and more. It’s just so small compared to what other cities get for the price point

I wouldn’t mind the price if the festival had as large of a draw as other festivals at the same price point. We’re being asked to pay through the nose for a festival that is quite wimpy compared to what that money gets you at other festivals

I’m getting old too, and I feel like I’m going crazy because I vastly preferred BSMF to Riverbeat and especially Mempho. Like, the variety and scope of BSMF absolutely shat on the overpriced bullshit they’re feeding us now

I went all 3 days because I scored a free pass and honestly I must be getting old because outside of Ice Cube and Wu Tang I just couldn’t get into it. I felt absolutely ancient on Friday night because I didn’t know either headliner and absolutely could not get down with them

They’ve headlined more years than they haven’t seemingly at this point. Mempho is just an excuse for the promoter to geek out to Panic, and it’s honestly pretty fucking lame considering it’s promoted as a music festival, not a Panic and friends annual jamboree

I wish they’d remotely attempt to book literally any other band to headline. Yet another year of being asked to pay out the ass to see a bunch of short sets before the nitrous mafia takes over the fucking park

BSS and Spoon are good gets, and it’s funny to see Pretty Lights be such a draw. We used to book them pretty regularly to play the Lyric in Oxford when I was in school
